Q: hi, I’d like to use two of these as a base for a studio desk. would they hold the weight of a 4’x6’ or so desktop?

It would support it but it would be a pretty low desk.

Hello, I am not sure if you can. the soundtown Logo looks nice And it's a well-built rack.

Q: How much weight can the top self support

It feels pretty solid to me. I could see the limiting factor being the casters if you have them on. We have ours loaded with gear and have a big mixer on top.
