It has a speaker in each ear controlled by volume control. If you turn down the volume you may loose one apeaker

There is no jack on the ear muffs.

Q: Does the microphone cut off when there is a loud noise? One review said no

Yes, mine clip the sound when you clap your hand at the mic. I have other hearing aids for shooting but these should work fine. I use them in the shop when the background noise is high.
