This review is for the ST1534 with the 5.0ah battery. I was looking for the most powerful, fastest RPM, dedicated string trimmer Ego makes without going commercial. According to their website, the maximum RPM of the ST1534 is around 7,000rpm. That's up there with the 3 speed offerings from other companies even though this a 2 speed model. It definitely feels heavy duty and it's weight is also heavy with the included 5.0ah battery. If you're not strong, you will have problems holding it for more than about 25 minutes at a time. If you can handle it, you have a weed trimming beast that can destroy canyon-sized weeds. No fancy features like automatic line feed (ie LINE IQ) or powered line feed (ie Powerload), just straight forward, old fashioned string trimming. Expect about 25-30 minutes per charge if you're using the high speed mode.

Overall, this is a good product and I have no regrets about my purchase as I wanted to get away from using an electric line. To be fair however, this is my experience if you are considering buying this product. The pros: It's portable; battery snaps into place easily; battery has indicator that indicates power remaining; the whipping is very strong. The cons: With battery mounted, it's heavy; battery life is not that long; and in my opinion, the rotation of the head, which is counter clockwise, is wrong for right handed users. I'm right handed. As I walk up or down edging, instead of whipping debris away from my legs, the trimmer flips debris into me. To avoid this, I have to stand perpendicular to the edging as opposed to a more natural angle that allows me to walk up and down during edging. This may be hard to imagine, but think about it: Your right hand is at the back of the trimmer pulling the trigger switch while your left arm is extended holding he handle of the trimmer. If looking down from above your head, the angle of the trimmer rod will be closer to your legs -- maybe around 30-45 degrees from your body. Given the counter clockwise rotation, there is no way to avoid debris whipping into your body from this angle. While it's good safety practice to wear goggles when trimming, it's a must when using this particular trimmer.

Goodby gas engine!

Battery lasts 45 min on mode 1 and 20 min mode 2. Batteries are expensive but product works very well. I like it is quieter and does not smell compared to gas powered. Normal grass trimming works well in mode 1. Mode 2 is better for thicker weeds.

excellent power but gets grass all over you

My EGO trimmer died after less than two years of occasional use. Called customer support. Was on hold for an hour. Sarah answered. I complained about the long wait time. She immediately cut me off. Product gets my lowest rating due to awful customer service.

I used the trimmer for 15 minutes. The rapid reload head broke. The side of head cracked. Needless to say not pleased.
