Creative Haven Norman Rockwell's Saturday Evening Post Classics Coloring Book

Fed up with patterns and flowers and mandalas etc? Then get this, it's a real hoot. Paper quality isn't bad, I've had worse. Cheap and expensive pencils work well. Quite detailed smaller areas to colour but some larger, not too many that make it seem like a children's book for crayons. I am a real fussy colouring book buyer and I love this.

I love colouring and this book is Fantastic, you can use felts and it doesn’t bleed through onto the next colouring page. Awesome

This book has some really cool images. However, the paper isn't great + I find the lineart awkward to colour in. See attached photos to see a few pages from the book.

This book combines two of my favorite things. Rockwell and drawing with colored pencil.

J'ai beaucoup hésiter à acheter ce livre mais je n'ai pas été déçu en découvrant les images à colorier très divers qui m'ont plus énormément, Je vous demande de ne pas juger la couverture qui n'inspire pas toujours mais l'intérieur du livre est magique. Je vous le conseil chaudement car le papier edt de très bonne qualité pour ceux qui colorie aux feutres. A vos crayons et laissez votre inspiration faire le reste.

31 simplified drawings of paintings that famed illustrator Norman Rockwell produced for covers of the “Saturday Evening Post” weekly magazine, single-sided pages so you don’t have to worry about bleeding through onto another drawing and perforated for easy removal. Color guides for three of the drawings, done in colored marker.Let’s face it, most of us are never going to be able to do justice to Norman Rockwell’s realistic style. Sara Jackson has done a great job of simplifying Rockwell’s paintings into the underlying elements that will allow almost anyone to color in an image that retains the wit of his originals. And if you want to take a shot at something more painterly, they are appropriate for that also -- google up a color pic ( they are all identified) – and take your best shot!But first study the drawings. They are basic line drawings but in a way they are nicer than Rockwell’s originals, because a lot of detail is retained – detail that I have to admit I missed looking at the paintings because I was so caught up in his wonderful technique. The cover art – “Triple Self-Portrait” – you’ve probably seen it a dozen times or more, but did you notice the small reproductions of Durer, Van Gogh, and the like stuck on the upper right of his canvas? The book with notes sticking out on the stool with the mirror? The smoldering wastebasket? (surrounded by fallen matches around the floor).Even the more serious works such as “Freedom from Want” have this level of detail – the flowering twig stuck behind the frame on the wall, the careful rendering of the dish of celery stalks on the table, and the cranberry relish. This is a good quality coloring book with the adult colorist in mind. It is not pricey, and I think any colorist addict would be delighted to receive this book as a gift. This is one of the best books that I have in my coloring book collection. It sits right beside Charlie Brown and his Peanuts Gang! Listed below are the things that I think make this a really super fun adult coloring book. I definitely recommend this for the serious and perhaps accomplished colorist.31 DELIGHTFUL NORMAN ROCKWELL illustrations that appeared in the long ago family magazine; Saturday Evening Post: I colored most of them by using copies of the original prints as guides. However, I did color two of them using my own color scheme. Both color schemes were challenges, but oodles of fun.ARTIST-QUALITY MEDIUM WHITE PAPER that accepts colored pencils beautifully. Both Prismacolor and Marco Renoir went on smoothly and blended well. The smaller core pencils, Colore and Ohuhu worked well for the more intricate spaces.WELL CONSTRUCTED glued spine that stays together without breaking thus allowing one to easily bend back pages for easy coloring.PERFORATED PAGES make for quick, easy and smooth removal.GLOSSY THICK COVERS that protect the coloring pages.PLATE NUMBERS, name of the illustration and date illustration appeared in the Saturday Evening Post are on the back of each picture. Nice!NO RIPPLED PAPER OR BLEED-THROUGH with watercolor pencils and wet brushes. Gel pens also worked well. Faber-Castell Polychromos, an oil based pencil did not leave shadows or bleed-through. I used Tombow dual brush markers primarily for testing the bleed-through. Nada here also. The darker colors did; however, leave a light shadow on the back of the page. This did not affect the appearance of the illustration. Do not forget a blotter page…..ever...behind your coloring page.FRONT AND BACK COVER pictures are included in coloring pages. Two of the plates are also included on the inside covers. This helps greatly if one is trying to duplicate the color scheme.ONE PER PAGE illustrations
