True RMS, VRMS, ARMS and WRMS is the RMS measure of both the AC + DC components, it's integration of the area under the curve. This meter measures VACrms and AACrms, so it separates the DC component. It should state TRUE AC RMS, but like most meter manufacturers, they don't. There's a lot of misunderstanding on this thanks to marketing in companies. Take a look at a Fluke 187 or 189 where they actually measure TRUE RMS, but on the meter they call it AC+DC (in Blue). Most people are fine with this, since they typically measure line voltage or clean DC (battery or SMPS supplied). However, measure a DC source with high ripple current and you will not get a real measure, such as in automotive battery chargers that use a linear charger (large transformer based, not SMPS). Knowing the True RMS allows you to properly design for things such as thermal, efficiency and safety (fuses, breakers, thermal cutoffs, etc..) and to prevent over charging or over powering a battery or device. Class 2 devices, as those that fall under UL1310, have to comply to VRMS up to 2kHz for both indoor and outdoor ratings. Landscape lighting, LV pool lighting, USB 3.x Power Port also must comply. The reason for this in LV applications is because of the breakdown voltage of the skin. How to tell, if the AC symbol on the display only has a tilde ~ it's ACrms. If it has both the tilde ~ and a straight line – above it, its RMS. Some meters (Fluke 187, 189, 287 & 289) use the DC for both DC and RMS, so it will have both if the second function feature is RMS. The Dashed straight line on the flukes means it can also properly measure pulsed DC. **Q: what is the minimum dc amperage it will measure? 1ma ?** A: In 6A range, resolution is 0.001A, the test range is 0.001A~6A. In 60A range, resolution is 0.01A, the test range is 0.01A~60A. In 100A range, resolution is 0.1A, the test range is 0.1A~100A. **Q: with the clamp can you measure amps in DC ?. What functions do you want to measure, to what accuracy do you need and how much do you want to pay?With a DVM you can pay 5 x + the cost of this handy tool (for a Fluke meter) and for the clamp ammeter facility you will need to pay £120 for the Pico clamp ammeter and will need an oscilloscope to attach it to.I primarily chose this meter for a number of reasons:-The clamp ammeter Jaws were not too large/wide (16mm) this gives higher accuracy when measuring small current flows. I use them for checking vehicle DC battery parasitic drain, which should be 20-30 milliamps and alternator charging current, normally 60 amp max. I noticed that the amp scales were 600 milliamps/6 amps/60 amps/100 amps perfect for vehicle current ranges. I had not noticed that the 600 milliamp setting was for AC only but the higher three were AC/DC.On the Volts/Ohms/continuity beep setting, I liked the auto set facility which made it quick and simple to use. Also the the LIVE setting was excellent for checking caravan/motorhome mains hook up wiring on 240v.Unfortunately on the first meter I was supplied the voltage reading was innacurate and gave me a reading of 11.9volts on a 12.4volt car battery. I as a consequence had to return the DVM, but I was impressed at the level of after sales service provided by MAXRIENY-UK. Who demonstrated great concern at my disappointment and very quickly supplied an accurate unit for me to use.It is a shame the 600 milliamp scale is not DC compatible it would make this little tool perfect for my needs, but I am unable to find any other reasonably priced DVM available anywhere that better meets my needs/original requirement. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Product., great for low current DC readings *by A***T on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 May 2022* Having read alot of reviews oin this producxt I thought I would add mine.I bought this to measure DC current on the low end.The first thing I did when this clamp meter came through the door was to test the meter and the photo says it all.
