This is a lovely little set of watercolors. It's a nice value for six colors, the Kuretake Disposable Pocket Brush Pen (actually felt tip) in fine, and a Kuretake water brush. The colors are vibrant and beautiful. I love the metallic #90 Gold. It's gorgeous. The brown in this set is like a rust or burnt sienna to me. The colors are a bit more opaque than transparent because they're Japanese Sumi paints - similar to gouache. But I can use them thinner for more transparency or thicker, and layer color as well. The colors respond beautifully to water and brush and a little goes a long way. I was disappointed that when mine arrived (Amazon used FedEx for shipment). The box was open and all the paint pans were tumbled out. The reddish color, #34 Dark Pink, was emptied and the chunks and flakes were all through the box, nothing had been secured or packed well, just randomly thrown in loose. The listing said, at that time, it was the last one & I know Kuretake Gansai paints can be hard to get. So I painstakingly gathered all the chunks and flakes of #34, and placed them back in the pan. I added water and let it mush back together. It worked and was good as new. But what a jumbled mess. If I'd known they'd get more so soon I'd have returned the mess. But I really wanted this little set. Oh well, I'm happy with them now. Just watch out for a poorly packed box. *I just rescently read on an artist's website that she did a light-fast test of the 36 color set of these paints. This is the site where I read the information: http: [...]l. She placed swatches of the 36 colors in a window for a year and a duplicate set of swatches in a droor. After a month in window light 3 colors had faded, after a year another was faded in those conditions... totalling 4 out of the 36 colors as not light-fast. But she said they are still great for crafts and art that won't be hung/placed in sunlit areas. I actually have all 4 of the non light-fast colors, got them b4 I read this but still use mine in my journal art. She includes pictures of her results. *2 of those colors are in this little red box set, #34 Dark Pink and #67 Deep Blue. *The 4 non light-fast colors are: #34 Dark Pink, #67 Deep Blue, #57 Turquoise Green, #66 Menthol Blue *I got some reusable glue dots and secured mine to the box to (hopefully) ensure no more fall-outs. You can't even tell they're there. It works great so far. I love these Kuretake paints so much I purchased the different colors I most wanted individually (on a separate site). They are a pleasure to use. *The included fine tip Kuretake Disposable Pocket Brush Pen has a firm tip but with a nice flex. I get fine right on the tip, and med & fatter lines because of the flex. I really like this pen, it's dark and smooth. It works well for me to line over a dry painting (or under watercolor on certain paper). It's a beautiful pen for drawing. It doesn't bleed and is very consistent. I love how it works & looks on my watercolor paper for sketches. It can run a bit on some paper types if brush & water/paint are used over it but it seems to depend on paper type/weight/texture. On some paper it was very waterproof, so it would be helpful to just test it on different paper first. The brush is just a straight forward good water brush. The box is a simple gift box with a slide-on top. The top on mine fits loosely so I secure it with a matching color rubber band. No problem. The included colors are: #34 Dark Pink #40 Lemon Yellow #46 Brown #55 Green #67 Deep Blue #90 Gold

These are creamy & smooth, activate easily & applied beautifully to my Canson XL watercolor paper. The presentation is lovely but the pans are not secured in the box so if you are planning to use these for travel you'll want to secure them on the bottom with double sticky tape or a bit of glue & add a band to secure the lid when closed, also allow a bit of time to dry after each use before storing in your bag or kit. The color choices work well together for mixing. I questioned the choice of indigo over Pthalo blue or Ultramarine but it mixed well with the other colors & I was able to mix some natural greens, a vibrant purple/violet & a deep turquoise with the other colors. I got a decent gray with Indigo & Burnt Sienna, & a deeper gray with Rose Madder & Viridian. You can definitely mix a variety of colors with this set. The Gold is shiny & opage, nice for embellishments. The water brush works well & the pen has a very small brush tip that gives some nice variable lines. This set is a great introduction to this type of Japanese watercolor.

Arrived a little cracked, but who cares? Doesn't impact performance at all. It's an adorable little set and ready to run right out of the box. The selection of colors is, I think, very good. The green leans a little more viridian than the usual green included in starter sets, which is nice because it's a tricky color to mix right. The red is more of a pink which I think is GREAT. Almost a magenta, so you're halfway to a modern primary palette. I love this particular slightly dusky blue, and the brown is a solid option. You could go out sketching in the field with just this set and do fine. The pen is not the most expressive--I expected a brush style tip like the famous Pentel inking brush pen, for some reason. This is not that but I think this style of pen is more familiar to more people, and you can coax line variation out of it. The packaging is, again, SO CUTE. the colors are so tasty! I love that even though the pans are plastic, at least the whole thing isn't a huge honking chunk of plastic. I like the slim, tidy profile. Perfect for working on the go and would fit into a bag nicely. Do they handle differently than standard/ western watercolors? Yes, but that's not a bad thing. They handle a LITTLE more like gouache but they're not just that, either. The color payoff is good but sheer washes are very possible. These seem more prone to hard edges, which I personally LOVE. like all art and office supplies, YMMV. I always demo my supplies on cheap paper to see how they perform under the worst conditions. Everything can look good given optimal conditions. But even super super rushed and on dead cheap paper prone to pilling, these are so nice! Probably I could have price checked and gotten these cheaper elsewhere but the allure of prime shipping still wins sometimes.

I've never tried these watercolors before, but I really loved this little package and had to try it. I'm glad I did. These are all beautiful colors, but my favorite is the gold. OMG that gold is just gorgeous! The colors are very saturated and a bit "sticky" when wet at first in the pan compared to Winsor & Newton Cotman pan paints that I am used to using. They do not stay sticky as long as you use enough water, and they can be either saturated or more transparent depending on how much of a water to paint ratio you use, but they are an absolute joy to work with. On top of that, this little set is a PERFECT gift for ANY watercolor painters or budding enthusiasts.

Great vibrant colours

Kauft man die Inhalte (Farbnäpfchen, Wassertankinsel, Pinselstift) einzeln im Fachhandel, wird's um einiges teuerer. Die Farben sind hochpigmentiert und ergiebig und lassen sich mit etwas Erfahrung gut mischen (als Mischpalette tut's auch ein Porzellanteller). Die Farben sind nicht ganz so brilliant wie die von Schmincke Horadan oder Winsor Newton prof. In meinem Exemplar sind Lemon Yellow, Viridian Green, Indigo, Rose Madder, Burnt Sienna und Gold. Der Pinselstift ist tiefschwarz und eignet sich gut für's Handkettering (ist nicht so meine Stärke, darum kein Schriftmuster...). Leider liegen alle Teile lose in einer kleinen Pappschachtel nur mit etwas Knallfolie 'gesichert'. Für jüngere Kinder ungeeignet! Nettes kleines Mitbringsel.

Ya he usado otros productos de Kuretake, y los colores son hermosos y además no se opacan. Este set es pequeño pero bastante completo.

Si je pouvais mettre plus de 5 étoiles je l'aurais fait! C'est un excellent produit. La peinture (aquarelle) est incroyable. La texture et les couleurs sont parfaites. Grâce au pinceau (on peut stocker de l'eau) on peut faire des traits fins ou gros (comme on le souhaite) et surtout, on peut peindre sans en mettre partout. Mais, à utiliser avec délicatesse. Le feutre en plus, est noir et fin. Ça permet de faire aussi de jolis effets avec la peinture. La boîte est jolie, elle est en papier/carton, donc à faire attention. Les carrés de peintures peuvent s'enlever (vous pouvez les séparer, les mettre autre part que dans la boîte), Il y a en plus, une notice (en japonais) qui explique comment marche le pinceau. (Il y a des dessins) C'est un produit que je conseille.
