Parachutes and Ribbons and Scarves@@ Oh My!: Listening Lessons with Movement Props

Artie's book is amazing. This was the first book of hers that I purchased, after hearing good things about it. I have never attended any of her workshops or even heard of her. Now I am a huge fan. My students love the parachute, rhythm instrument, and scarf activities in this book. Artie wrote it so clearly, but my favorite things are the listening maps for teaching Form and the DVD that comes with the book. I am such a visual learner, that when I watch the DVD I feel comfortable teaching afterwards. I even showed a few sections of the DVD to my students. Her kids are such good examples, it really helped my kids to see other kids smiling and cooperating. This is the only music book I've ever purchased where the same activities work with my preschool autism classes as well as general ed for K-6 and special education classes from K through 6th grades (every group I teach loves the William Tell activities). I've never had a lesson work with Pre-K all the way up to 6th grade for both general ed and special ed. These are the activities your students will repeatedly ask you to do over and over. Sometimes I save these activities for the end of class as a reward. I especially loved getting into this book at the end of the year during testing and when kids were really wiggly and needed to keep moving. I got a workout too. My calves were sore for days after doing all of the Trepak jumps with my classes! Buy this book!

This book is fantastic. I was worried bc reviews said there was no music or videos included… well, CDs and DVDs are being replaced with online links. So visit page 6 for the website link and use the password they give you. Scroll the whole page and download the .zip files for audio and video as well as printables in color too. Very pleased! So much easier and more fun than writing my own curriculum!! Highly recommend!

This is great for the elementary music classroom. I've done the scarf activity with the Nutcracker and I look forward to using more of these routines. My behavior problems practically disappeared-the kids were so engaged and wanted to earn the chance to use the scarf.

This is a GREAT book. Every lesson I have taught, my students have really loved. And the added DVD is a great bonus! It is nice to let them see other students performing the same activity. The only reason I marked it down to 4 stars is that most of the lessons require purchasing extra materials not just parachutes, ribbons, and scarves. However, the lessons can be adapted to work with what you have.

I love all things Artie Almeida, and this one is among the best. I’ve used numerous activities from this book and all have been extremely well received. It takes a little time to learn each one, but your time is well worth it given the positive response you’ll get from your students!

I absolutely love this book and the video. My kids, from K through 5, love it, too. Even the older kids find things they enjoy doing in all of the routines and the younger ones beg to do the activities again and again. Artie is inspiring. I heartily recommend this book to every elementary teacher!

This book is perfect for the elementary music classroom. It’s packed with great locomotor activities using different manipulatives & fun activities your students will love to do!

I am an elementary music teacher and if you are a person who incorporates movement with music in your classroom, this book is a MUST HAVE in your library. Comes with the CD and DVD so you can use each activity at your leisure. You will need to purchase a few extra materials for some of the activities, but those things can be accumulated over time! So many wonderful things in this book! My students have loved "playing" in music!!!

Great resource for liustening

A bit pricey considering number of lessons, but a very good resource and one that provides inspiration based on provided lessons.

Paid more for it on Amazon than the price on the back of book. The book has very limited resources and I know there is not much that I will be able to use for the kids I work with. For the amount I spent, I could have gotten better. Would not recommend it if you just want some ideas for children to use props and move to music. The printable pages are unnecessary, as most people would want to create their own depending on the group. My fault for not investigating further before purchasing.
