Dove & Quail Bird Food (4 lbs.)

I have 2 smaller-type (non-protected) ground doves (very similar to the ringneck) that were thrown from their nests during Hurricane Beryl. I could not release them as their flight skills could not be perfected in any sizeable open space, compromising their ability to avoid predators (we have numerous hawks). That, having been said: I've tried a variety of add-ons to dove mixes, or many just sold and fed as stand-alones. Amazon is one of the few places I've been able to purchase an economical 20 lb bag, to which I've added a really good finch food like Dr. Harvey's Fabulous Finch Food (also sold on Amazon; pricey, but well worth it!). I've dropped the sunflower chips and hearts, and the smaller type cracked corn--they were not interested in either.

These Sleek and Sassy seeds are my Chinese Painted Quail’s FAVORITE food. They like them so much that I often see my rooster feeding the seeds to the hens like he would a mealworm :). I mix the seeds in with a typical layer feed, and they never fail to pick out each and every Sleek and Sassy seed first. A great option to provide some variety in your quail’s diet. I also sprouted some of these seeds as an additional treat, and they turned out great! Inexpensive, good quality, and my birds love it- highly recommended.

This seed is probably wonderful if you have a set-up where only doves and quails have access to your feeder. However, be aware that doves prefer to eat off the ground, and not from feeders. I purchased this for a feeder hanging outside my 2nd-floor apartment patio, to feed the doves that had been sitting on my patio railing from time to time. It never attracted the doves to the feeder, just a lot of finches, who brushed the seeds they didn't want onto the ground, where the doves probably ate it, out of my view. I had originally rated this seed as 1-star, until I learned from someone more knowledgeable that doves are ground feeders. It appears to be quality feed, so I've updated my review. Just be aware that if you want to use it in a bird feeder, you may be wasting your money.

I provide feed and water for the local birds; including feeders for the hummingbirds. I am doing my part to provide them access to wholesome feed. I grew up in the commercial bird and hatchery industry, that my parents ran for years. The product manufacturer is putting quality seed into every bag I have opened. Having seen what bird feed should look like during my childhood, I feel that I am able to provide an accurate and knowledgeable assessment of this product for this review. I will continue to order the 'Dove & Quail Bird Food' as long as the vendor is able to provide it to me. Thanks.

My pigeon loves this food. He was previously eating the Hagen pigeon & dove mix which he didn’t have an issue with but I just wanted to try some better options. I already tried one of the Versele Laga mixes and he hates all of the big peas. The only thing I would change about this food is that it has cracked corn. I would prefer none or a small amount of very small popcorn. I also wish it came in larger bags and wasn’t so pricey. I will probably continue to look for something comparable.

I thought there was something wrong with this food like it was old because the seed was sticking to the inside of the plastic bag but I gave it to my pigeon and she loves this seed. I think I filled up her bowl 3 times in the last few hours because she just keeps eating. Glad she likes it. Will definitely be buying more. Great product. Me and my bird thank you.
