I normally get bigger seed trays. This time I went smaller but these trays are great. Strong and steady material. Easy to handle and not bulky when filled with soil. I will definitely get more of these in the future.

This was my second time purchasing these because they are so versatile. The first two sets I purchased maybe 5 years ago came in both large and small size inserts, with the small ones being the size of a plug (a large thumb). Before I started using these, I had a terrible track record with growing anything from seed, but having a steady water supply from the tray and higher humidity instantly boosted my success rate and confidence. Now, I have totally upgraded my set up with heat mats, lights, professional trays, etc. and have excellent germination of even challenging seeds. But, I still use these MIXC trays for some plants. Why? They’re perfect for germinating a smaller number of seeds, particularly if they are larger (cells are larger than standard plugs, allowing you to grow plants in the tray longer, either skipping the need to transplant to an intermediate pot or delaying it until your plant is larger and less vulnerable to transplant shock) or have different germination requirements than other seeds. They also make keeping track of what you’re growing a lot easier. Instead of using stake-style labels, I use a single sticker label or piece of masking tape for the entire tray. Lastly, while these lack the heft and durability of my other trays, the original set I bought years ago have been surprisingly durable. No cracking or tearing, not even the ones I’ve left outside. The fact that the inner tray is clear, thin plastic makes it easy to see how roots are developing and you can gently push plants out by collapsing the cell from the bottom.

I've used these for a couple seasons now, but at this point, I think I'm just going to throw them out. If left on their own, even with all the vents open, these trays retain so much moisture that my seeds rot and I get weird stuff growing on top of the soil (not sure if it's a mold or a fungus or whatever). These 5 work just fine for someone in a different environment, but I'm trying to start seeds in a cool house (under 60 degrees) using a heat mat under the trays. Under those conditions, it's almost impossible to get the right balance of warmth and moisture to get the seeds to sprout without rotting. I've come to the conclusion that I need more space between my seed trays and their covers. For me, the moisture in these small trays gets out of contrel.

These are nice quality trays. The plastic is thicker than I expected. The size of the cells is perfect for seed starting. I like being able to see the moisture level through the clear plastic. Definitely would order these again!

This is the second set I have ordered. Have been using the first set for several years and they have held up well. Good set for a good price.

Product as described. The inserts sit slightly off the bottom of the tray allowing you to fill it slightly so you can do bottom up watering, or just give it some extra water on a hot day once seeds established and your at work all day. They feel more durable then most of the locally acquired seed starting trays so I think you could easily get a few years out of them.
