Pearl Shaving Double Edge Safety Razor L-55 (Close comb+Open Comb,Chrome)

Amazing amazing just amazing! Though I'm just a beginner i used the closed comb, the shave was super smooth. For any beginners reading this, I'm a super beginner, this was my 3rd shave of my life. If you're a beginner use the close comb plate for a few months so as to get a habit of it. My first two shaves were with cartridge system gillette mach 3 and they were painfull, I'm sure it was because i don't have experience but still after those two shaves i felt a little burning on skin, all in all not comfortable. But this Pearl L55 DE was just amazing. Imagine being a super beginner like me who had his 3rd shave of his life had a smooth experience. The pack contains, closed comb plate, open comb plate, 10+1 (total 11) Willy's blades. Blades are of very good quality, beginner friendly for sure. I'm very very very impressed. The weight of the handle is nice and heavy. Feel of the whole setup is premium. And yes there was also a cleaning cloth in the box. Packaging was good, delivered only in 2 days. I'll update/edit this review in a few days after i give it to some experienced people and I'll gather their opinions and write here. So, the open comb is perfect for those with some experience of handling a razor. Open comb is not intimidating and is perfectly fine just try it if you have been shaving for sometime. Go for this razor no doubt. Beginner friendly. It's not too good for hard beard because you'll have to do many many strokes to clear the skin. If you have a hard beard go for Mühle R41.

Pearl Double Edge L55 Razor has been quite a revelation. For more than 25 years, I have been using Gillette Sensor, Sensor Excel, Mach 3 or Fusion. I was happy with them and thought that they cannot be bettered. Just on a whim, I decided to try double edge shaving again. It is now almost impossible to find a decent double edge razor in the market except a cheap Gillette plastic flip open type razor. I tried it, was unhappy, and would have gone back to Gillette Fusion. That is when I ordered Pearl L55 Chrome on Amazon. The razor is packed well, beautiful and a veritable piece of art. Perfectly finished, it impossible to pick any flaw. I tried the closed comb with a Wilkinson Sword blade that I had already used for two shaves in the plastic razor. Pearl Razor, with its weight, glides naturally and effortlessly on the skin. With perfect grip, without the slightest pressure, it gave me perhaps the smoothest shave ever without a nick or razor burn. I may not have to use the open comb at all. Pearl L55 Razor is a marvel of elegance and precision that has won me back to double edge shaving.

Here I rate it 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. Razor is really nice and looks mean in the hand. It is chunky, metal all around and is heavy. The knurlings are sharp but would not cut your hand and is unslippery with sure confidence while shaving. The head is light means I have Romer 7 premium - The real piece of perfection - and this one is no match for its exquisite value. However, this does no mean that this razor is not value proposition. This razor has a heavy handle which takes care of the all the gliding and shaving requirements. The head though light but well crafted. This razor is super and gives ample feedback during shave. Here the close comb is not mild but it is medium aggressive. I can feel the skin scrapping during shaving. The open comb is mellowed as it is definitely aggressive but in a toned down version. Here, both comb gives smooth shave and is a personal choice. Well, after my beautiful and cherished possession and shaving with Romer 7 premium Razor matured, I felt a need for a full head razor and not the dual head which the Romer 7 Premium came with. Romer 7 Premium is perfect and gives me smooth baby and buttery shave and gives best of the both worlds - open as well as closed comb shave - and all packed in one razor. However, I realised that I must go ahead with a full fledged razor and started to look out for a razor which comes with both heads separately. My choices fell upon Pearl L-55 ; Pearl A-141 and Bombay Shaving Company Razor. The Bombay Shaving Company Razor has the oomph factor and is the beautiful among the trio but the zamak metal used in it fells short of the durability and longetivity of the Pearl Razors. The price is also high among the trio. Pearl A141 has great reviews but the resin/plastic covering over the metal in the handle part is not to my liking. Pearl L-55 fits all my requirements and gosh I am really happy with this razor. One reviewer mentioned that the close comb head of L-55 is the replica of famed Edwin Jagger DE-89 razor head. The close head of L-55 really gives a close shave without any nicks and pricks and worries of open comb. One has to admire the art of shaving albeit Wet Shaving to appreciate this piece of razor. This razor open comb also performs well and gives close shave and this all comes down to one's preference. This razor performance is super and is easy to use and a value for money product. The weight, workmanship and machining is of a high quality. It's a mild razor, so pair it with a sharp blade like Bic or any other "platinum" coated blade. It comes with 5 SuperMax Platinum blades. I placed a separate order for Bic Chrome Platinum on Amazon and these ultra-sharp blades work perfect with this mild razor. I've also ordered Pearl's shaving loft and inexpensive Vinkam shaving cream, all ordered in bulk from Amazon. The combination of all three (Pearl Razor + Bic Blade + Vinkam shaving cream) is a force to reckon with. Learning curve : Since this razor is machined by default to be mild (i.e it is designed such that there is minimal blade protrusion, just enough to cut the hair but the blade edge not fully exposed, to prevent cutting deep into your skin), it has absolutely no learning curve. Coming from a cartridge shaving background, it took me only 2 shaves to develop the muscle memory to use it proficiently. Didn't nick me even on my very first shave. The design is very forgiving of wrong shaving technique that makes it very "newbie friendly". It's like a precision instrument. There's no need to apply pressure while shaving. Just plant the razor on your face and let it slide under the influence of gravity. No pressing or dragging motion needed. Single pass with the grain gives a close shave. Second pass across the grain gives barber quality clean shave. On the economy side : This #MakeInIndia razor + inexpensive blades + any locally made generic shaving cream combination cuts down the cost of shaving to just 2rs/shave, even if you use a new blade every time. Compare that to the 3-blade and 5-blade cartridge razors which cost an average of 200rs per cartridge replacement. 200rs spent on a multi-blade cartridge per week i.e (200 X 52 weeks = 10k rs a year spent on cartridges). What a waste. Pro Tip : Try to use a shaving cream instead of shaving soap. Since the cream is already semi-solid, it's easy to lather and spread. Soaps are hard, both literally, and also hard on the skin, since they have high detergent content and dry out your skin. Creams have emulsifiers and oils that leave the skin moisturized even after washing off. Lather with a good quality brush (NOT the cheap 50rs ones). Wash your face with warm water before shaving. It softens the follicles and raises the hair to its end, making it easy to cut. No after shave or alum is required. Your skin's natural oils will return on the skin within half an hour of shaving. No need to douse your skin with any chemicals.

Nice Razor. Really good finish and looks great. Heavy weight, great to handle. But handle is little short, it’s not a problem. Easy to handle. Worth it

In product description it is mentioned "105mm Long handle" But I got "87mm Long handle". Product quality is good but not as per description, one important feature, length is short.

Bought this Pearl safety razor for around ₹700 expecting solid build quality, but the screw mechanism broke within a short period of normal use. The handle can no longer tighten properly, making the razor completely unusable. Extremely disappointed with the durability, this feels like poor quality control for a product in this price range.

The Product is Very Good. I liked it's Quality and Comfort in using.
