As others have said, if you follow the instructions, it goes on really well without clouding the surface. I used it over a Littlefair's floor stain (Modern Oak on pine floorboards) and chose semi-matt as didn't want a completely dull floor. The sheen is very subtle, but looks good nonetheless. To avoid having to clean a brush I applied with a clean microfibre cloth and this worked brilliantly. It got easier as the cloth became more steeped in the oil - you need just enough so it glides over the surface - so I kept it in an airtight bag overnight for the second coat. The odour is quite strong and takes a while to dissipate but it's not unpleasant (reminded me of oil paint/art studios). The oil was a bit of an outlay but it goes a long way and I'll have enough for several rooms. The cost of prep, stain and oil compares favourably to carpeting and, in my opinion, looks far better.
