A breathtaking survey of 20 years of fashion designs by Martin Margiela Timed to coincide with a major exhibition, this volume revisits the years during which celebrated designer Martin Margiela achieved the status as one of the most important designers at work today. One of the "Antwerp group of six" who changed the face of contemporary fashion, Margiela created 41 runway shows between 1989 and 2009 which promoted a unique vision of understated luxury -- monochromes, oversize volumes, and his signature "constructed-deconstructed" cuts - whose credo is comfort, timelessness, sensuality, and authenticity. Famously reclusive, Margiela never showed his face even at his own shows in order that the work could stand purely on its own, free from any link to celebrity or self-promotion. This volume chronicles these amazing fashion shows in careful detail: the extraordinary spaces, the music, the designer's intentions, the iconic pieces. Over the years, recurring motifs and inspirations become more apparent including anonymity, whiteness, past and anteriority, diversion. The book reveals the sensitive, poetic and incredibly innovative universe of this most influential contemporary fashion designer. Review: What lies beyond despair over fashion. - The last flower of fashion culture. Review: OMG! GREAT BOOK FOR DECORATION AND READING! - I use this to decorate my livingroom, first off I love fashion, high end fashion since I was young! This book makes my livingroom look like what I FEEL! The vibe of my apartment is high end fashion, contemporary, modern, and simplistic, this book gives me that feeling ALSO NOT TO MENTION, ONE OF MY FAV DESIGNERS!

The king of avant-garde and deconstruction fashion
Martin Margiela didn't create "deconstruction" fashion but he gave it a "spotlight" alongside designers like Rei Kawakubo. Margiela took other's discarded items and reworked them in beautiful fashion pieces. This book celebrates the work he did at his maison when he was there. Maison Margiela (now designed by John Galliano) still carries on his legacy. The master may have left his "Maison" (House) but his impact remains. You can see it all around via labels like: Vetements, Off-White, Phoebe English, Lutz Huelle, Vaquera, Eckhaus Latta, Phoebe Philo, and others. This book is a must in any fashion collection!

Needs more photos of the clothing items
I wish this would have been an actual catalog of all the garments in the exhibition. Instead, it only shows a couple /few items or so from the seasonal collections. The narrative is interesting though.

Lacking
Only a handful of photos from each collection (some seasons only have 2-3), and their often not very clear or comprehensive.

Martin Margiela
