A smaller model would have been good for me
The drill is very powerful and works well. I could have done with a smaller model and that would be easier to handle and carry around. But this works great.

Very good buy
I bought this for my husband as a gift and he loved it. Makita is a very good brand for tools and this brand does last a long time. The Makita brand is all he uses and I recommend getting this tool.

Excellent Makita Product
I used to really sweat getting holes into masonry before buying this hammer drill. Now drilling screw and lag bolt holes into brick and stone is like child's play. If you have lots of holes to drill, you may want to invest in a pair of 5, 6 or even 8 amp hour batteries and a rapid charger. Giving this product five stars because I simply cannot imagine visiting a worksite for the first time without this tool in my truck.

Better than a regular drill for concrete anchors.
The no-prisoners approach to drilling holes for concrete anchors. Works far better than a regular drill on the "impact" setting. Convenient cordless operation, works with my existing collection of Makita batteries.

Game changing
Let me preface this with the fact that I've never used an sds plus compatible tool. So I don't have anything to compare it to. Before purchasing this, I'd been getting by with the regular makita drill with the "hammer" feature that came in my original set years ago. I wasn't sure how much better this would be at drilling, but I decided to pull the trigger mainly because I needed the chisel feature. I'm installing a catch basin and drilling through the 2 inch non-reinforced knockout walls. I'm drilling smaller holes around where I need the holes for the 4 and 6 inch tile, chiseling between them and knocking them out with a sledge hammer. I started drilling a few holes the other day with my old "hammer" drill and after about an hour and a drained 5 amp hour battery, I had 3.5 3/8" holes in the catch basin... That simply wasn't going to cut it, so I ordered this. I just received the rotary hammer today and had to try it out immediately. It takes about 3 seconds to drill a 3/8" hole through 2 inches of concrete with this. In about an hour of playing with it, I already have 2 of the holes for my 6 inch tile complete. So that's 10-15 holes around the perimeter for each, chiseling, knocking out the center, and chiseling some more This is working down in the mud and water as the catch basin is already set. It would be much faster if I wasn't contending with the mud and water above the bottom of the holes I'm making The rotary hammer does eat batteries and get hot, but with the amount of power it's putting out that's expected. It is also long... too long to work from the inside of the 2x2x3 catch basin. The XRH03Z would probably have been a better choice for that.
