There is nothing wrong with this product except the pins 😡😡😡 the springs work well it only becomes a problem when you first or later on you have to tighten them up and you have to put your pins into place ( this holds the tightened spring in place ). I found the pins fiddly and not very snug/fit table it took me several attempts to get the pins to stay in the holes on my second one ( I bought 2 ) slightly better still as bad ( the pins ) . On my first one I know have to find a split pin or something as when I tried to adjust it the pins that just fell out and I could only find one

We were a little nervous ordering this due to all the negative reviews but I'm glad we went with our common sense and ability to research and werent disappointed works well so far and took 10 mins to install. For us worked better in middle of gate than the top. That said the tensioner tool seems a bit flimsy and one of the rivets was slightly bigger amd was difficult to put in place. Also there were no instructions so can see why people have issues. Pros + Easy to install (if you know what you're doing) Quick job. Closes gate well once tensioned. Cons - No instructions (if you don't know what you are doing) Tensioner tool flimsy did slip once and nearly injured my partner. The rivets were slightly off and needed a mallet.

The SPRING GATE CLOSER I purchased appears to have no been withdrawn, but as the review rating still shows up so high I felt the need to echo others comments here. First, I have purchased this sort of thing elsewhere before, so was a little surprised this one was so small for the price. Similar size (quality unknown) are available for ~£5 also on Amazon. I appeared of good weight and quality, so I proceeded to fit it. Then comes the second problem! I used my own screw to fit and all was well. When I came to tension the spring, both tension bar and retaining pin provided were loose and started to bend after less than a full single rotation. Moments later, the spring failed and in doing so, released the retaining pin at high speed! Fortunately I was wearing protective glasses as the note in the package suggested!!! Fortunately Amazon sorted the return and refund as promptly as ever, but this item is poorly made, approaching not fit for purpose and certainly not “heavy duty”. Buyer beware

Even installed as required, it doesn't work as expected. Cannot recommend this average quality product

Ok so it fitted really easily and works just fine. The only slight problem is the small 'holders' that you slot in the holes are too short so dont hold properly. Easily surmounted - i just hacksawed a couple of bolts that fitted, to the right length.

No instruction as to which way to wind tensioner and therefore I wound it the wrong way. No hassle to reverse.

The spring is quite weak and the pins are either loose or very tight to the point I had to use a hammer to knock it in... It wasn't easy both holding the spring tightener in place and the pin and hit the pin with a hammer... See picture 2 from tightening the spring! It was straight... The fact that the spring can't be tightened that much makes it pretty weak. I had to use a screw driver wedged between the pin and bracket to twist the bracket to the angle shown and this only just closes the gate to without pulling it to the catch. It closes the gate but the amount of effort to get it installed due to badly fitting pins and the weak 'tool' to tighten it makes it a faff to install. It neither feels nor looks like a quality product.

I installed on 2 gates within a few minutes and over the past few weeks the gate are used frequently with no issues. As we have a new puppy I am feeling more comfortable the gates will be closed.
