Indespensible guide book
I have been to 30 countries around the world. However, this was going to be my first trip to the Netherlands. I actually got four other guide books out of the library on the Netherlands, but they didn't have Rick Steves book. Therefore I read the other four, cover to cover, then purchased the RS book to take with me on my trip. In my opinion Rick Steves is equal to, or superior than, any of the other books I read. One thing for sure, Rick recommends that if you do your homework you will have a great trip. I wholeheartedly concur.I like to think of myself as an experienced world traveler. My recommendations are that if you're going to South America, the South American Guide Book is indespensible. (It's been published for decades, and is thick, but compact. Last one I saw was bound in a red hard back binding. If you're going to Asia, then you'll have to make your own decision about which guide book to get. But DO learn enough of the language of the country you are going to, or you'll end up having a difficult time. AND finally, if you're going to somewhere in Europe, get a Rick Steves guide book. They cover every imaginable detail, and provide enough information to insure that you will have a stupendous trip.

Can’t travel with anyone else!
If you aren’t traveling with Rick Steves you are missing out. His books are absolutely the best. We get one for every major city we plan to stay in for more than 2 days. If it’s a pass through city on a longer tour of the area, we get the book for the entire country. For understanding and visiting a city tho, his city books are the best. You get all the best sights with hints about the best time to visit, prices, and any issues or problems you might encounter. The very best part are the “city walks” he has in the book. Be sure you take the Red Light walk and the City walk. They are fantastic.

Helpful information not found elsewhere
I made a short trip to Amsterdam to see the Vermeer exhibit a few months ago. This book and the accompanying map was really, really helpful. I also spent a lot of time researching on the internet, most of it not necessary. With this book and perhaps watching a YouTube video or two on using their transportation systems, you'll be good. :)

Perfect for 1st time traveler's!
This travel guide is a great investment, especially if it's your first time travelling! It has a map of Amsterdam attached to the back cover, a list of all the attractions, list of places you HAVE to see, should TRY to see and some that'll be worth your while. It contains points of interest in EACH city in Amsterdam, schedules of the operating times at each attraction, and recommendations of what time you should visit each attraction to avoid long lines.

Don’t Leave Home Without It!
I purchased the Kindle version and have read much of it already. We booked tickets online in advance as suggested. We have tickets to the Van Gogh Museum and the Ann Frank Home (and there were 4 left when we did). There is lots of valuable information and tour information. Things such as when to go, don’t buy tickets from scalpers, and a walking tour of the different floors. Last night I read about Van Gogh’s life which was fascinating and will add so much to our visit. I am very impressed and grateful.

Extremely Dated, shouldn’t even be selling this
I was gifted this book to plan a trip to Amsterdam. It was not until we got here that I realized the book is extremely dated. There is a new version that I wish I had been given but it was not the one purchased. This shouldn’t even be on sale or it should be very obvious there is a new version that is basically the same price. At this point buying this is basically a scam.

Nobody beats Rick Steves
EDIT: I did exactly the same itinerary he suggests in the book and wow....even though I bought an old edition, it was still good enough to be used for 2022. What a beautiful country and Rick was spot on.

A must have to visit Netherlands the first time
Very detailed. The maps are very useful especially as it is very difficult to find a street map large enough. Have not yet visited the Netherlands, but the book helps me a lot in planning my itineraries. Will give more information on my return from the Netherlands.

the best!
if you are going to buy a information book, this is the only one you need, I purchased the soft cover book over the ebook, so that I could share it with my family
