Is it solid or hollow under the felt pad? I would like to screw these into a wood plank and can't tell what's beneath the felt.

I don’t believe you can. From what I can remember you can just twist it around a bit, and that’s it’s very attached to where I don’t think it can come apart. I think most of these wood hands are attached since they are wood, good luck.
