This mic does improve the ability to hear the radio. Seems well constructed. And does appear that it will not allow water into the radio, it has a good tight boot that seems to seal well.the cord seems of good quality as well. The waterproof claim has not been tested by me as yet. Some state they had connection issues, it have had none. It screws in tight and works well.

I got this Yaesu mic for $16! It was listed as "used acceptable" so I thought what the heck - returns are free. This thing is absolutely like brand new! Sound is excellent for a submersible mic and I get great signal reports. A great mic at full price if you need a submersible and an unbelievable deal if you find for 66% off!

OK price; arrived when promised. OEM - not a cheap copy. Like that the jack is relatively water-protected (screw-in/o-ring) - I have no intention of giving it soaks, but it is for a marine environment so the protection is worth it to me. Relatively large for a speaker-mic, but that gives a solid feeling and will improve audio performance.

Excellent water-proof speaker mic! I have it paired with my Yaesu FT-270R. The receive and transmit audio is noticeably better than the stock components! Audio level is very clear with no distortion and LOUD. Especially if you clip it near your head. I was impressed with the signal report on the local repeater. The microphone feels really nice and solid in my hand. You can tell it's built to last. I plan on using the microphone when I am backpacking, caving, and geocaching. Worth every cent.

Pro: Mates with my HX210 marine radio. Speaker sound quality is very good. Other people report the mic sound is good as well. Con: The push-to-talk button is actually a silicon cover over some kind of switch. The feel isn't as positive as a full travel switch, but I understand that this design is easier to waterproof.

If you are considering a speaker mic for your HT (handy talky), they are worth the expense. The Yaesu Vertx mic is rugged and submersible. I have used it in the rain with no issues. A speaker mic allows you to clip the unit near your shoulder on a jacket or on a radio belt. You can hear the incoming traffic, and you can transmit by pressing the button and turning your head. There is no worry that you are going to drop your radio while trying to hold it and go about your work. Not having a mobile 2M radio, I use my HT in my car, and the speaker mic allows me to secure the radio in the passenger seat and still talk.

Perfect, waterproof, works well in the snow and cold ( -45C)!
