great product and did not damage my hair at all
The Color X-Change Phase-Out Gentle Dye Decolorizer + Intensive Hair Mask has been a lifesaver for my hair transformation journey. As someone who enjoys experimenting with different hair colors, I often find myself needing to remove or fade existing dye before trying something new. This product has made the process gentle, effective, and nourishing for my hair. First and foremost, the decolorizer formula is incredibly gentle yet effective. Unlike harsh bleach-based products that can damage and weaken the hair, Color X-Change Phase-Out utilizes a gentle decolorizing action to gradually fade unwanted dye without compromising the hair's integrity. The result is a smooth and even color transition that leaves my hair looking and feeling healthy. What sets this product apart is its dual-action formula, which includes an intensive hair mask to nourish and hydrate the hair after decolorization. Packed with conditioning ingredients like argan oil and keratin, the hair mask replenishes moisture, restores strength, and enhances shine, leaving my hair feeling soft, silky, and revitalized. The application process is straightforward and hassle-free. I simply apply the decolorizer to damp hair, focusing on areas with the most stubborn dye buildup, and leave it on for the recommended amount of time. After rinsing out the decolorizer, I follow up with the intensive hair mask, allowing it to work its magic for an added boost of hydration and nourishment. One of the things I appreciate most about this product is its versatility. Whether I'm looking to completely remove old dye or just fade it for a softer transition to a new color, Color X-Change Phase-Out delivers consistent and reliable results every time. Plus, the intensive hair mask can be used regularly as a deep conditioning treatment to keep my hair looking and feeling its best. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the Color X-Change Phase-Out Gentle Dye Decolorizer + Intensive Hair Mask. Its gentle yet effective formula, nourishing ingredients, and versatility make it a must-have for anyone looking to transform their hair color with confidence and care. Highly recommended! A super inconvenient alternative to professional products that do the same thing but better
To start off, I do have a nail tech's license so I have access to professional beauty products very easily through cosmoprof but I wanted to give this product a try to see if it's worth anything in comparison to professional direct dye removers. My conclusion was that it absolutely isn't. I took reference photos to show the dye I was removing, the result after processing the Color X-Change Phase Out for 8 hours and then the result after I did a 30 minute process with professional direct dye remover (Scruples Urban Shock Direct Dye Remover to be exact) on top of that. As you can see, the phase out made my dye look about 6-8 months faded and lifted that dye from about a 5 to a 6 in some areas, 7 in others which was not lifted enough for me to dye over with my blue dye without colors mixing and getting patchy. On the other hand, the professional remover lifted what remained up to a solid 8-9 leaving my hair ready for dye. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: 1. It works somewhat so it's not a total scam 2. It was slightly drying but in no way damaging to my hair. Nothing that a good conditioning couldn't fix 3. It can't be over-processed so idiots who can't keep track of time and people who don't understand the need for a clarifying shampoo in between chemical services aren't going to make their hair fall out. Cons: 2. It was extremely irritating, itchy, burn-y on my scalp, it felt worse than 40 volume bleach, even 3 days later I can't touch my scalp with a comb because it hurts. Professional dye removers don't do that to me at all. 1. It takes a minimum of 8 hours to process while professional dye removers take as little as 10 minutes with a max processing time if 60 minutes. 2. It doesn't work even half as well as professional direct dye removers. 3. It smells horrific, like chopped veggies that have been left out on the counter for 2 days straight and you have to deal with that smell for 8 hours minimum. I felt like my head was a compost bin. 4. It's extremely watery/lose in texture so it can't be applied easily with a brush, you're better off pouring it over your head. 5. You can get 10 applications worth of a professional direct dye remover for the same cost as 1 applications worth of this product. If you have access to a cosmoprof card or you have a friend with any sort of beauty license (or one that is actively enrolled in beauty school) who you can send to cosmoprof with some cash on your behalf, get a professional product. The results will be much better, you wont have to sit around with your hair smelling like garbage for 8+ hours, you'll have plenty of product left over for the future and you'll be ready for new dye in under an hour.

Not my favorite, but worked pretty well
This color remover worked fairly well overall, but definitely had some downsides. It was VERY runny, despite following the directions which said it would be a gel. The texture made it very difficult and messy to apply to the hair, and made it easy to miss spots (which you can see a bit in the “after” photos by my ears, but is more visible in person). It has a bizarre, awful smell which made the process pretty unpleasant. It kind of smells like something rotten, and combined with the runny texture and strange brownish gray color make it feel like you’re just putting puke in your hair, honestly. Thankfully this smell is the most prominent while applying - when you put a cap or bag on your hair overnight, you don’t really smell it anymore. It got most of the stubborn green out of my hair except for my my ears, which was probably just user error. It also did not make my hair feel dry or damaged, which is great. The conditioning mask has a pleasant floral smell to it - I was a little leery of even using it because of how the remover smelled, but it was nice. I wouldn’t say it made my hair feel any different than a regular conditioner, though. Also, there isn’t much in the packet, so if you have long or thick hair, it won’t cover it all. Overall, for the low price I really can’t complain much. It’s not bad! The application was the worst part, and having to leave it on for so long was a bit inconvenient. I’m not sure if I’ll use it again or just go back to Colour Off, but it worked pretty well and was very affordable. If they could just make it a bit thicker and the smell better, it would be great.

[update at end/ stained hair ] Didn’t lift my purple much but lightened other colors okay.
I’ve been dying my hair with direct dyes, usually conditioner based, for 8-10 years. As you can see in the photo, It did lift a good amount of the other colors off, just not so much the purple spots. I followed the instructions, mixed with room temp water and applied to clean towel dried hair. I left it on for 12-13 hours, rinsing and checking a strand here and there. No damage as far as I can tell (I already have bleach damage from a few months ago, that why my hair looks the way it does). I did buy two packs and only needed one, so I might give it another go sometime and see if it can lift more of the purple out. As for the smell, I didn’t notice one when I was applying it. But as I went to rinse, it did smell a lot like rotten baby formula? And the smell lingered in my hair for a day. Didn’t burn or itch for me, but I have a pretty tough scalp and not many sensitivities. [[Update:]] did another treatment a week later. This round left it in overnight again. I think the product stained my hair? Didn’t lift anymore color out (not that I’m surprised, I wasn’t expecting much) but I really didn’t think about it staining my hair a swampy green orange color lol. Second set of photos (last three) taken in the same room with the same phone and light source, also on towel dried hair. My hair feels a little more damaged but again, that could just be from my previous bleach shenanigans. Guess I’ll have to just dye over it with something darker this next go.

Safe and Effective on Porous, Bleached Hair
This is a miracle product. I'm growing out my silver and have the whole front section of my hair bleached to blend the silver. My dilemma is that I want to blend it using a color depositing conditioner. I used a silver conditioner over who knows how many layers of previous color depositing conditioner and my porous, bleached hair turned a swampy green. I don't want to bleach or chemically color my hair anymore at all--not even during the grow-out--so I had to find a way to deal with the green without returning to the salon for more bleach. After a lot of research, I decided to try this product. I used about 1/4 of the package for the front of my hair (I could have used half that amount), applied it to clean, towel dried hair, and left it on for 30 minutes. I washed it out with micellar shampoo, conditioned, and used the Redken acidic bonding leave in treatment, my curl cream, and a hair moisturizer after my hair was dry. I did one side at a time so I could really the results and it was dramatic. I mean it when I say that I feel like it removed every layer of every color depositing conditioner I've used in the last several years. The difference is astounding. My hair looks shiny and feels soft and strong. A total color reset. I would feel safe using this anytime I need to remove color conditioner buildup.

THE VERY BEST!!
There are so many color correctors out there. I've tried a lot of them. What alot don't say, until you read the fine print, is that they do not work on non-oxidative hair color. Traditional hair color is oxidative. Typically, this is permanent hair color. Typically, non-oxidative is semi-permanent, color depositing or spray/mark on hair color. I have naturally blonde hair. Normally I can't keep red colors/shades long because my hair is porous and the color basically 'slips off' after about 3-4 weeks. So, to see what a rose gold would look like, I bought a color depositing conditioner. It was phenomenal in how well it worked. Unfortunately, it was not rose gold. It was more of a copper and after a few months, it started looking orange. I tried everything to get it out! I even tried bleaching my hair...3 x! Nothing worked and my hair was soooo damaged! After researching, I stumbled upon this gem! I have a lot of hair so I bought 2 packages. So easy to use!!! Open the black packet into a bowl. Add water and blend. It makes a thin paste and I did both packages at the same time so I just doubled the water. I followed the directions and didn't start at the roots. I put a cap on after I applied it, left it and washed it out. Then I opened the silver packets and applied the conditioner, put on my cap and for me, I left it on overnight. Woke in the morning, rinsed it and OMG! It was like magic!!!! After 9 months, poof! It was gone and it was so soft! I can't say enough about Color X-Change!!! For this, I would have paid 10x the price. I don't know about dark hair or for oxidative hair color (traditionally non-oxidative is more difficult to remove) but, if you end up having to do it a couple of times, it's hella inexpensive and it truly does work! Tbank you for this amazing product!!!

One of my favorite products!
I wish they would sell me this stuff in bulk. I want a tub of it. I color and re-color my hair regularly and this stuff saves my from using ungodly amounts of bleach on my already naturally dry curly hair. Yes, it's still a little drying and leaving it on over night isn't the most convenient or comfortable. It's very effective and it does much less damage than bleach. I strictly use direct deposit colors and try to bleach my hair as little as possible but with how often I change it I just don't have the patience to wait for my color to fade out so this is the solution. It doesn't always remove all of the color after one treatment and reds and pinks are the hardest to get out but I usually can get out enough of my previous color to color over without issue. If my color is particularly stubborn I'll do one treatment with this over night, shampoo with a dandruff shampoo in the AM and deep condition then do another overnight treatment and that's usually all it takes. For my purposes it's a 10/10. Might not be as great if you want to remove 100% of color and expect to go back to your natural color without having to tone or color correct. I haven't tried it with permanent colors but I don't think it's for that. The conditioner pack it comes with is nothing special but it's fine I don't really care about it.

Eh
So I have neck length, semi thick hair (I overly thinned it on accident) and one packet was enough with left over product. This product went on watery and just barely gel-like as stated. I was trying to lighten my already faded blue hair before my next color. On the most faded parts it did whiten them a fair bit but on the darker blue spots, it did absolutely nothing. I knocked off 2 stars because I could only keep this on for about 30 minutes because it made my scalp so unbelievably itchy and my scalp has been itchy for 2 days after the treatment. If I had been able to keep it on for an hour+ I would have probably got my desired results but I will never know. Also while this had a slight clay/mud scent to it, it wasn't noticeable until after washing my hair out. The scent stayed in my hair even after 3 cleansing shampoos the day of/2 days later. And the conditioner smelled good but didn't get rid of the treatment scent and also wasn't moisturizing. The ends of my hair were dry and knotted a bit. I just shampooed my hair with cleansing shampoo (going to recolor with Arctic Fox) and without any conditioner, my hair is softer and more manageable than it was with this conditioner treatment and Olaplex No. 6 afterwards. Pros: It will help lighten already majorly faded color. I'm talking, any residual pastel color after a bleach bath, light. Cons: Smell lingers for 3 days. Sometimes it smelled like clay/mud and sometimes it smelled like a penny. Scalp itches during treatment and for 3+ days after. Conditioner doesn't work. Leaves ends dry and tangled.

does not work
I am naturally blonde and I was trying to get brown hair dye out it made no difference, and it burnt my forehead overnight. I dyed my hair a few months ago so maybe that was the issue, and the product was meant for more freshly dyed hair.

It's ok
It didn't remove the whole color but it definitely made a difference. I did everything per instruction and applied it on my manic-panic purple/pinkish hair. It's now a somewhat faded pink. I definently needed more than one packet. It's a shame they had a 1 peice limit on the product and couldn't purchase another one when they know 1 won't do the job. I wouldn't recommend using it without buying two or more as it won't remove the color unless it's already almost gone. It didn't do that much damage, but it's drying. Overall ok.
