Not waterproof, but good ink
Not waterproof, but that’s alright. It does dry quick. True black as well. Happy with it. I use it for doodling. :)

Good colour
This ink gives a decent black colour. Writes with a slight wetness. Flow is good. Go ahead and buy it.

Excellent Ink
Moving on from my earlier workhorse black ink (shaeffer skrip black), which I was not happy with due to disappointing saturation, and fading issues of writing over time... I must say, this has been a very pleasant ink to write with. Saturation of black colour is very satisfactory, and works equally well with F, M and BB nib pens (Platinum Preppy, Lamy safari, Kaweco Sports).

Great value for money
Ink is great, doesn't feather and dries quickly. However the bottle isn't as good looking as in the pic, there's a sticker on it, not the pattern on glass.

So, it really is a great gradient of black.. on the other, their royal blue is their version of blue black…and blue black is actually grey…

Not the absolute blackest of inks. But smooth and designed for nibs that put down a decent amount of ink. I use it with European XF and with Japanese F nibs, with very good results.

Purchased to replace a fast emptying 30ml bottle. The product illustration and description are in apparent conflict. This is the bottled ink and not a pack of cartridges and also supplied in the larger 62.5ml size; 30ml is standard. "PELIKAN 329144 Ink Cartridge" (as incorrectly described) is a black ink from within their 4001 range; they also have a more expensive Edelstein range of 'luxury' inks that includes some different colours. There are about eight colours within the 4001 range and they are fairly routine; the lighter tones of blue, green and the yellow-orange group are wholly absent. The entire range is regarded as slow-flowing or 'dry' and consequently an excellent match to their own range of fountain pens which are considered to be very wet writers regardless of nib grades. As most major Western brand pens (Parker, Waterman, Sheaffer, Cross) are also regarded as 'wet', Pelikan's inks could be a very good match to any of them. The black ink is very intense, a 'solid' colour that does not show any transparency as may be experienced with many other black inks. It has worked very well in a number of pens fitted with Medium and Broad nibs when it creates high visual contrast. It isn't too fussy about paper quality and will work equally effectively on cheap copy paper as on expensive 'fountain pen' paper. The only time it did not work well was when briefly used in a Fine-nibbed Pilot Capless as it was probably too viscous for the narrow nib; a lighter and relatively wet ink worked far better in that instance but poor nib adjustment may have been a contributing cause. Drying time will normally be around ten seconds. Because of its intense tone, it may be worth running a spot check with a paper for any bleed-through from the writing side although it has not been a frequent issue; thin papers are most susceptible. Feathering has not been encountered. Pelikan 4001 inks are widely available online from several suppliers and from specialist dealers in the high street. Because of its depth of tone, the ink is ideal for use where photocopying will or may be required. It could be an everyday ink for personal and business use although it may be too dark and too formal were it considered for party invitations, greetings cards etc. Because of its dry nature, it cannot be recommended for use in any pen that is also considered 'dry' as the rate of ink-flow is likely to be too low; that is its only practical restriction. A first-class dry ink at a reasonable price, especially with this offer which is about a third below normal retail!
