This is a fantastic book that details the steps for using Revit for the beginner Revit student. I like the fact that it is focused on Interior Designer so there are not any irrelevant exercises for practice. What I also like are the diagrams and screen shots of the steps you are learning. There are not only screen shots, but the tools you are to select are circled or called out in some way. A screen shot is not useful if you don't know which tool to look for or select. I am kind of analytical, so the REALLY great thing I like about this book is that it not only tells you what to click on, but WHY you are clicking on it. In many areas, the book explains what happens if you don't do something correctly and how it may affect your project. There is only one suggestion for improvement I would make. Chapter 6 starts with building floor plans and there is A LOT of information about the nuts and bolts, i.e. top and base constraints, wrapping, sweeps and reveals, wall joins, editing profiles, making slanted walls, etc. This is all before you even get into exercises creating a floor plan. Pages 6-1 to 6-24 is all this background and foundation information. Exercises to begin building a floor plan start on page 6-25. I think there is a better way to integrate the information on the first 24 pages into more useful exercises. These 24 pages need to be broken up in some way. Most of our students' eyes were glazing over trying to retain the information in this first section of chapter 6. Overall, I would give this book 4.5 stars and will look for more instructional books by this author. Review: This book is fantastic ! ! - I am an architect. I also own the companion "Residential Design for Autodesk Revit" book, but I highly recommend this "Interior Design" version to every architect since it covers a lot of material I have not found elsewhere which architects can use as well as Interior Designers. The book begins with some basic Revit guidance, however I especially appreciate the amount of detail it provides about how to use and create materials for rendering, how to create ceilings, stairs, toilet rooms, floor finishes, signs, and so on. The book also gives website locations where one can download Revit families from product manufacturers such as cabinets, carpets, paint colors, etc. This is the fifth book I've purchased on Revit, and it has far exceeded my expectations as it has really filled in a lot of gaps I've found lacking in my other books. Overall the author knows his material, and is extremely knowledgeable in the subject.
