When i plug it in, says usb video device cannot start.  when i go to update the driver, it says i have the most up-to-date driver. please help.

The device driver is not compatible with a chromebook. Is there another driver available to download?

The device driver(s) are supposed to be internal to the device proper (firmware or hardware, not specified which...). My perfunctory search didn't find a ready solution, I had no difficulties with my rig so Sorry, really can't answer your question. You got the latest updates on your chromebook?

I pluged in the usb to vga cable, but no prompt appear. where i can download the driver?

I work in IT and I've never seen this before, but the adapter will show up as a drive.  Basically like you were plugging in a flash drive to the computer.  Which is very confusing.  The driver for this product is located on the drive letter that shows up.  Your computer should ask if you want to open and view files in the folder, and believe it or not you want to click yes.  Then install the driver and reboot.  In order to get the proper resolution to show up, I needed to reboot the computer twice.  Hopefully this helps someone because I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out the driver.  Normally you plug these in and either download the driver from a website or Windows update installs it automatically.  Not the case here.. but so far so good as far as the adapter goes

hey i plugged this in to my laptop and my desktop background is lower quality and has not that many colors, is that normal?

Same for me - plugged into USB 3.0 port and resolution is 800 x 600 and cannot be adjusted. disappointed.
