Great food
We were using Victor, which the dogs liked and did well on, and it sure was a bargain, until I discovered they removed the montmorillonite clay from the recipe without disclosing it. Charlie has a slightly sensitive stomach and I felt the clay was a good addition for him. I went searching for another brand with the clay and found Instinct Be Natural. Truth be told we tried this food, in the chicken flavor, when we first adopted the dogs two years ago and Charlie had some issues. I've since figured out he has a chicken allergy or intolerance so I bought salmon this time. Both dogs are doing great on the food and they LOVE the salmon (fish breath aside, ahem.) And while I thought their coats were good on the old food, they're puppy-soft now. Price is reasonable considering quality, and kcal/cup is quite high so I'm feeding a bit less. Still spending more than we did on Victor, but worth it I feel.

We love this food for a few reasons!
After my friend recently lost his second dog (too young) to heart disease his veterinarian mentioned it ‘could’ have something to do with a diet lacking important ingredients like Taurine, an amino acid that can cause heart disease. I went to Google reading, discovering and searching for a different dog food and came upon this one, Instinct. I have the same breed of dog and felt it important to understand more about what my dogs need. My veterinarian said early canine heart disease can result from lack of an amino acid called Taurine. There’s a lot of interesting information about this which has me questioning whether or not I should keep my dogs on a strict grain-free food diet and since my dogs tolerate grains just fine I’m opting in for grains. It wasn’t easy to find a non-grain free dog food!! So far this one fits us great, my dogs love it and I feel better after doing research. And, I’ve started feeding my dogs vegetables for treats - they are loving all the new options!

helped with allergies & no tremors
my boxer mix lost hair behind her ears when she had ringworm as a puppy and it just never came back. I noticed last year the hair loss seemed to be spreading almost giving her a mohawk of hair vs no hair :( The vet didn't seem to find anything particularly wrong, her ears were a little red. also, as is more common in boxers she had head tremors around a year old. I did a lot of research and realized that high protein diets can cause a blockage in absorbing magnesium which can lead to head tremors. so, I started making her food and did so for 1.5 years. we've tried a couple other foods but this is the first one that I've found that doesn't have a needlessly high protein ratio and isn't filled with fillers. plenty of protein for her to handle 20 miles a week running - she's a beast! :)

No unnatural preservatives or meat by product!
Instinct has done an amazing job with making their food free of unnatural preservatives and no meat by product! It is full of nutrients and my pups love it! Our German Shorthaired Pointer has a poultry allergy and it took me 2 years to find a food that contained no poultry, that she would eat and give her regular bowel movements. Instinct also has a raw food topper that the pups LOVE and makes me feel good knowing I’m providing my dogs with the best food other than making it myself.

You don’t need grain-free
I know that the debate has been back and forth for a while now about grain/vs grain-free. Well for now, they say that you don’t need to avoid the grains, so I went with this slightly cheaper option than their raw bits version. The only thing I can’t get with is the price. Come down. It’s a lot. But my dog seems to like it just fine!

Perfect for dog with chicken allergies!
I needed a chicken free dog food and didn’t want a prescription diet OR grain free diet. Most chicken free or limited ingredient diets are grain free, which has been shown to cause heart issues in dogs, so I wanted a food with grains. All 4 of my dogs have done great on this food and my dog with allergies hasn’t had any flare ups since switching to this food. I have 3 complaints: I wish they made this formula for small breeds (this kibble is a bit big for my 7-17 lb dogs) and the food smells SO BAD, our dachshund’s breath always smells fishy like it. 🤢

Great quality food for my dog with a history of digestive issues
My rescue dog Bruce is a Husky/Bulldog/Staffy mix and has a lot of digestive issues. He was found as a stray and had Giardia for who knows how long, resulting in a horrible digestive system. We switch between the Lamb + Salmon varieties (he tolerates these meats the best) and his digestive system has been doing so much better! It was really hard to find a quality salmon dog food with grains (we tried grain-free food to see if it would help and his digestive issues and behavior got worse), so I am so happy we tried this!

My dog’s sensitive stomach can tolerate this
My dog, Linus, has a very sensitive stomach. He is allergic to chicken and it isn’t easy to find food without chicken in it. This food has no chicken and Linus both tolerates this food and seems to like the taste. It is expensive, but at least his poop is solid. Buying it in big bags like this is a much better way than when I was purchasing small bags at the local pet store. This is an auto ship for us.
