The Little Engine That Could

The original and best little engine! Classic story and illustration.

This was such a cute little board book to give my nephew for his first birthday! The story has a wonderful message, and the illustrations are adorable. He seemed to enjoy flipping through it, though I'm sure he'll appreciate it even more as he gets older. It's a thoughtful gift for a young child and one I would definitely recommend.

With so many purchase choices of this book, which one is the "right" one? Well, if you are looking for the book you remember from childhood, it is this one. It's the same size as the one you remember and has the same drawings. (Everything will come flooding back as soon as you crack the book open!) It is a facsimile of what was originally published in 1930. Also: some reviews believe the text has been rewritten to carry a "feminist" message. That is nonsense. Regardless if you see this text in terms of feminism, this is, in fact, the same text as the 1930 edition. Yes, the engine that could -- the blue one -- is identified as "her." I didn't remember that being an issue when I read this as a child and I very much doubt most children will see that today. If you want to gift a child a memory that you had years ago, it is with this particular edition.

Lovable classic that lives on, that inspires young little minds

Adorable book! Grandsons loved it!

Great pictures. Long time favorite story. Doesn’t disappoint!

I'm collecting some classics that I grew up on for my friend that is having her first baby. I've ordered a handful of books so far and this one is printed the best, in hardcover, for the best price. The pages are decent quality, nice and glossy and bright colors. My only complaint is the book I received is slightly warped. See photo. But overall, quite happy.

Excellent book. Exactly as described and pictured.

An American classic which will appeal to all small children. The text satisfyingly echos the sound of the little train winning against all odds. My 3 year old grand daughter got out her bricks after hearing the story and made a train.

Pour pousser mon enfant à lire en anglais de manière ludique. Super ! Et une histoire pour montrer qu’il ne faut jamais baisser les bras même quand c’est dur.

So happy to share a beloved childhood story with our boys. I didn't remember it being a girl train though. Not that that is a bad thing. :)

Bought for my 3 year old grandson at Christmas. He loves the book and asks repeatedly for it to be reread. The illustrations are lovely with an old fashioned feel.
