Sturdy vintage look.
We purchased two of these for our 2024 motorcycle travel his & hers journals. The pictures and the actual item look and feel like something from an Indiana Jones movie. I didn't bring my normal journal when riding solo in 2023 because I wanted something more resilient to normal camping & travel abuse. This journal looks up to that task. I travel in all weather and plan to store it in a plastic bag. But I desired extra protection, and therefore applied a homemade wax&oil leather/wood treatment on mine. The outside leather seems unchanged. But the inside surface and edges are no longer just raw untreated leather. During application I slid the sewn in paper stack inside of a plastic bag. Letting the wax&oil sink into the leather for about an hour before wiping off any remaining with a paper towel. The paper towel came away with chestnut stains from the leather die. The plastic remained on overnight, then a sheet of laser printer paper was placed between the sewn in pages and leather. That test went well and no wax, oil or die leached into the front or rear sewn in pages. The only stain on the sewn pages occur near the binding where the plastic bag pulled away while I was wiping on the wax&oil. Like any tanned leather I suspect this will stain things if it gets wet. Hopefully I have reduced that staining by treating the leather. Best case it just never gets wet. Nobody should be expect it to be waterproof. But it's so rugged you'll be tempted to take it canoeing, where anything is possible. I am satisfied that it's real leather, of substantial quality, and worth the money spent on it. If you've read the reviews you might be worried it's fake leather. I don't believe it is. It may not be top grain leather, but my two samples are a decent thickness of uniform leather. Neither one very distressed looking out of the box. I almost went with another brand because the binding on this "looked like leather" in the photos. It is actually bound with a heavy waxed thread, not leather. This is a good thing, because the thread will hold up better than a leather cord would. The idea of removing the booklets and rebinding held some interest for me. It would be kind of fun to do that just to see how the great looking binding is done. Blank books are available in bulk, so sourcing them is possible. Note that each of the sewn in booklets have no staples or covers on them. So after unbinding these pages would need to be either stapled or rebound into another "book cover".

Fantastic journal.
This journal is exactly as described. This is high quality. Love the strap. Nice full thickness leather cover. The paper is good quality. Everything you want for a journal you plan on keeping and passing on to your descendants.

Quality product
I judge a notebook by how well the paper handles fountain pen ink. Not only did it handle my fountain pen ink well but there was no feathering, ghosting, or bleedthrough (see photo). I used a Pilot Kakuno, medium nib with the Pilot sepia ink cartridge. The red burgundy leather is stunning. It's not cheaply made. The size of the notebook is perfect to take with me every day. This is one purchase I made with zero regrets and the price point is reasonable.

Very pleased!
This journal is even better in person. I opened the package and saw the lovely, rich red color and was immediately so pleased with my purchase. The pages write like a dream. The pen that comes with has a nice glide and fine point. Will see how it ages but up front: perfection!

Good Quality, Not as Pictured
I'm giving the seller the benefit of the doubt going to 4 stars instead of 3. I would put the product at 3.5 stars for reason outlined below. I'm not a journal guy, but I do like vintage and old timey looking stuff. I'm actually using this as more of a logbook and notebook for stuff around my small farm. I often find that when I have to write more than a few words, it's just easier and faster for me to do so with paper and pen instead of a dinky virtual keyboard and memo app on my phone. Because I like the vintage stuff, I thought this leather notebook would be great, and it mostly is. I find the leather to be good quality and I really like the thick paper inside, which is bound nicely to the leather cover. I ordered the seller's refill package at the same time as a notebook (primarily because by the time I fill the notebook, I likely won't be able to find the refill). So for those worried about replacing the original pages, it is possible, and the refill package comes with new leather "string" to reweave the binding, plus a link to a how-to. It all looks pretty straightforward. As others mentioned, the pen is a throwaway, but this is the kind of notebook and paper you just want to use a fountain pen on. So the 3.5 stars: While the leather is nice and good quality, refer to my photo. Like many other reviewers, my journal did not at all match the seller's photo. Mine is the plain, medium brown, smooth leather. I actually have no problem with this personally, as for my intended uses, I'll be getting that "distressed leather" look soon enough and I kinda like "earning" that look instead of buying it. But if the seller's photo is what you're expecting, you will be disappointed. In summary: I find this a very good quality product, especially for the price, with really nice refillable paper (I recommend you order the refill with the journal). I feel the sellers would be better off using a more representative photo of the journal. I would have been quite happy to get this journal as pictured by me, but the seller's current image seems a bit deceptive and will lead to disappointed buyers.

10/10 notebook! Will buy more
Awesome notebook with perfect size for everyday carry, the materials feels like their decent quality making it pretty sturdy. It’s honestly a good bang for the buck while adding character to an everyday item. Haven’t had any issues with it bleeding through or rubbing onto other items in my daily bag
