Works great with a little help.
First off, I tried several other types of MicroSD card adapters but none gave me much confidence either by way of build quality, performance or both. I spent the extra money on this adapter because I was at my wits end with the other four or five I had tried. As far as this adapter goes, the build quality is great, it fits perfectly, looks like it belongs where it is and is easy to remove when necessary. I am using a SanDisk 200GB MicroSD card and have had no performance issues. I use the drive to hold my iTunes library (north of 100GB) and some other media files and haven't had any troubles with the adapter. I have experienced slow downs with data transfer rates (attributed to the MicroSD card itself) but I benchmarked my MicroSD card with a USB adapter and a couple other SD card adapters including the BaseQi adapter and saw no performance impact using the BaseQi adapter versus the others. One thing I did notice that I determined to be attributed to Mac OS X and not the adapter is that the drive mould rarely remount after my computer woke up from any length of being asleep. After a bit of Google-Fu and testing other standard SD card adapters, I came to the conclusion that Mac OS X (I'm on 10.11.5 right now) is fickle about remounting SD cards after awaking from a sleep period regardless if you use the Power Nap feature or not. My solution that has worked out exceptionally well is to use an application called Jettison to remount the SD card after awaking from sleep.

Perfect depth and works great in Acer Chromebook 15
I have an Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571-C09S and just received this adapter. It works VERY nicely in my Chromebook. I verified before opening the package that this adapter was the right size and the right pin layout (it is perfect in both respects). I suspected and now have confirmed for myself the reason the adapter may not sit evenly in the slot as reported by another reviewer here. The slot in the Acer Chromebook is not EXACTLY the same shape at each end as this adapter is at the ends of the aluminum end cap, not quite as rounded. The result is that the adapter "wings" don't fit all the way in easily. You can do one of 2 things to fix: either trim the ends of the slot opening to be more rounded or fitted to the adapter, or gently file the aluminum "wings" just a little to fit the slot (what I did). Then it will fit perfectly. I know this will void any warranty on the item but I verified it is working before doing anything and test fitted many many times to ensure not to remove too much. There are still "wings" sticking out on each end of the adapter, just not quite as much as original. This adapter now fits perfectly even and flush in my Chromebook slot. OK, maybe not perfectly since there is a curve to the underside of the Acer that doesn't match the adapter perfectly but I really have to try to even feel it when I run my finger along the side of the Chromebook. I use a SanDisk Ultra 128GB micro SDXC card in the adapter and can now just leave it in there all the time. The finger nail slot works as advertised to remove it if that should ever need to be done.

Needed this 10 years ago!
I bought this for my 15 inch 2015 MPB I picked up from Ebay with no internal drive. I Installed a 128 GB drive from a previous upgrade from another Mac but needed something quick until I purchased another drive. I had several micro sd cards that I never use and decided to get this adapter. Put a 128 GB micro in this adapter and formatted it to apfs. So far it works great and it hasn't unmounted itself at all. It also fits my 14 inch 2021 Macbook Pro but sticks out just a little. It fits flush in my 2015 MBP.

It just works, looks like it was built by Apple.
Update: There seem to be a lot of questions about if it will fit in a given model. I've included pictures with measurements, so you can see exactly how big it is. If you stick a standard SD card in your laptop, measure how far it sticks out. If it is less than 14mm, this will not work for you at all. If it's exactly 14mm, you're golden. If it is more than 14mm, this will work, but stick out a little. I bought one of the cheap knock offs, and it was always flaky. I would have to fiddle with it each time I put it in to get it to work. This one just works. Fits perfectly in my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013). No fiddling with it, it just works. I keep all my personal files on a 128GB card in my work computer with this. If I have to switch machines for some reason, no big deal, just pop this out and into the new machine. It is awesome to not rebuild my iTunes library each time I switch machines or jobs.

512GB Cards Work! (barely)
After checking with the official product website (which is always an important step), I learned BaseQi claims that 512GB cards are compatible (as opposed to Amazon's claim of "up to 256GB"). While the Samsung EVO Plus card that I have used functions as advertised, it makes the adapter a VERY tight fit into the laptop. As pictured, it does not sit flush with the side of the laptop because the card is slightly too big for the adapter. I’ve cleaned the slot from dust and tried to wear down the SD card and adapter by re-inserting them many times, but I still have had no luck. There is absolutely no way of wedging this thing out without the use of a metal pry tool. I contacted BaseQi about this issue and they explained "[this] 512 GB card is a little thicker than other microSD cards...with a bit more force, you should be able to push it all the way into the adapter". This is great, but I've already used more force than what I am comfortable with, given how expensive a laptop repair would be. Other than that, it's been a huge weight off my shoulders being able to offload my photo/music libraries and still have immediate access to them. I just wish the end result wasn't as shoddy.

Got stuck, doesn't fit right, impossible to remove
Well, it works, but it is stuck in there pretty much for good. Can't pull it out easily at all. This seems more to be an issue with the apple socket than the card itself. I tried modifying the card to see if I could remove it easier, but i need a pry bar to get it out. This interferes with being able to use the SD slot easily to pull data from a camera so it just isn't how its advertised. For those looking, I would recommend getting a slightly larger one so that you can actually remove it without a tool.

BRILLIANT solution for more internal storage!
4.5 Stars! What a BRILLIANT and easy way to add 2TB of storage to my MacBook Pro! Now, please note that the SD card reader in your mac is NOT super fast, but it’s fast enough. If memory serves me correctly, with a fast SanDisk card, I get close to 90-100MB per sec, which is fine for general file storage to keep my internal SSD free for the heavy-lifting. Only complaints are that once it’s in snugly, it’s hard to get out, and I have to use a small flat head screwdriver, as my fingernails just can’t do it. The other complaint goes hand in hand with this, but isn’t a problem of this unit, but more so the Mac, as sometimes the card doesn’t mount, and needs to be pulled out and put back in for the computer to see it. I know this is a Mac issue (at least with my machine, but likely others as well) because this happens with regular SD cards. So you’ll want to keep something handy to pry it open when you need to. I don’t have to do it often, which is good. I highly recommend this, and the only issue is the price of high capacity Micro SD cards. But still WAY cheaper than Apple’s tax on internal SSD storage!

Very impressive card
I rarely write reviews, but this product impressed me. I had never heard of BaseQi, so was a bit skeptical on performance, reliability. I bought this on Saturday, and received it Monday, along with a Samsung EVO+ card Samsung 256GB EVO Plus Class 10 UHS-I microSDXC U3 with Adapter (MB-MC256GA/EU) Read:up to 100MB/s,Write:up to 90MB/s ! to power it. I installed the Samsung inside the BaseQi, then inserted it into my MacBook. It didn't show up on the desktop -- I ran Disk Utilities, and it didn't appear there, either. However, I then rebooted, and could then see it in Disk Utilities. Since Samsung EVO+ cards are usually formatted for Windows users (as are most micro SD cards), I immediately erased it using Disk Utilities, using the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. Note, this is an important step if you want the highest speed using a MacBook Pro... do not skip this step! (See the first attached screen shot). I also renamed it to a short name I could easily recognize (256G Card). It then immediately appeared on my desktop -- but I have that option turned on in my Finder Preferences --> General panel. See Screen shot #2. (I recommend you show the "CD, DVDs, and iPods" option in the "Show these items on the desktop" section of the General panel of Finder Preferences -- at least until you get used to using this card -- without that checked, you won't see the card on your desktop). Interestingly, if you want to see it in your Devices list in every Finder window's sidebar, you must select "External Devices" in the Finder Preferences "Sidebar" panel. I don't know which should be correct "CDs, DVDs, and iPods" in the General panel, a "Edxternal Drives" in the Sidebar panel (see screen shot #3 below), but know that the options ARE different in the Finder Prefs. I then tried copying a 2 GB file from my internal 1TB SSD drive to the new card -- it was surprisingly fast. I tried another file and measured the speed. It transferred at a speed of 85 MB/s (the Samsung Card is rated at 90 MB/s write speed). I then copied several files to the card with no problem. Finally, I tried copying a 1 GB file from the card back to my internal SSD, and it was amazingly fast -- I clocked it at 95 MB/s. I know this is a measurement of the Samsung card, and not the BaseQi adapter, but my point is that the BasQi adapter didn't appear to throttle or choke the speed in any way. I was very impressed. I also tried shutting my laptop, and opening it again several times, but the card remained on the desktop. I also used the "Sleep" menu, then woke it up again. No problems with it auto-remounting like other people reported here in other reviews. Perhaps Apple fixed this problem with the latest Finder. I'm using Mac OS Sierra (10.12.6) I know I've used this for only 24 hours, but so far no problems. I'll update this review if I ever find any issues that make me less than 100% satisfied. I've been struggling with a full 1TB SSD drive on my MacBook for over a year now -- it runs hot, and I know keeping less than 1% of free space has been causing a lot of terrible wear on the same spot on that SSD, reducing its life expectancy. Using this now has allowed me to free over a hundred GB of space on my SSD, which should extend its life considerably. I know, I could use an external drive for offloading files, but I have already done this with several terabytes of data, and I still need at least 1TB of data with me when I'm away from my desk. Highly recommended!!

Perfecta
Funciona y encaja perfectamente. No sobresale nada.

Very useful, no unmounting issues.
My understanding is that this adapter is a passive device, meaning that it has no storage capacity, no sleep mode, no speed restrictions, or any active circuitry - so all of the standard Amazon feature ratings are moot. I have a 400GB sandisk extreme micsoSD card in it, and it is great. No unmounting issues at all when my computer goes to sleep or gets shut off. The adapter is hard to remove (you need a screwdriver to pry it out) but that is the entire point of this device. Installing the microSD card into the adapter is fairly easy as it just slots in. The adapter is truly flush with no protruding parts whatsoever.
