What is the interior dimensions? I have something that is 36inches long

It depends on how wide your object is. The external dimensions are listed on the web site, but if you look at it, there are indentations around the sides and there is a slight taper from top to bottom. At the middle, it is only about 30/31 inches (Taper). At the sides it is 33/34 inches. It is about 20 inches deep and about 19/20 wide. So if you have a 36 inch level, you can place it in there diagonally. If it is a board 36 x 20 x 1 it might also fit diagonally - but not much else of any size would fit. You get the idea. Rob

Does this work well as a horse tack trunk?

Yes definitely. My 2 teenage children & I have been using this box for both an everyday barn trunk and traveling show trunk for 3 years now. It holds all of our gear and supplies, and is sturdy enough to sit/stand on and stack in the trailer. Highly recommend!

could this be checked in on a fligt?

FYI: I just received this item intending to check as airline luggage. Stated size is: Assembled Depth (in.)-34.25 in , Assembled Width (in.)-20.47 in, Assembled Height (in.)-18.9 in. Let's say 35"x21"x19". Which can be checked on the airline I am flying on (80 linear inches MAX). However... ACTUAL outside dimensions are: 37"x24"x23" (84 linear inches) and therefore CAN NOT be check as luggage on my airline (Sun Country). Disappointed!!!!
