Beautiful Sketches
This is a coffee table book (10x13) of sketches done at Disney from Mickey Mouse to Tangled. It is a very simple book. There is a forward, and introduction and really except for the occasional note an artist put on the sketch, no other words, not even page numbers. The book is a little less than an inch thick. One thing not mentioned in the book (and I'd like to know the answer) is if the sketches are all actual size. Looking at pencil lines, I think they are, but I would have to have had confirmation in the introduction. I wanted the book to see the great work the artists did and I don't want them blown up or reduced. The sketches are placed in approximate chronological order. So it is easy to find sketches from your favorite movie. Sketches of your favorite characters is a little more difficult since they will exist between movies some time around when they were made and there is no index. I would have like to have had a caption written in the corner as I saw sketches which I'm not sure what they were of. Original character concepts, characters that are not in the movie, something else? I couldn't place them (specifically there is one of a girl getting up in bed and stretching - it is near Alice and Wonderland, but I don't recognize the scene or the person). Overall it is a great book if all you want is the artwork (and I did). If you are looking for information, text or anything else involving he written word, you may be a little disappointed.

Beautiful Book
I think this book is a wonderful treasure for Disney fans. The pages feel like you're looking through an actual sketch book and it's great to see the different drawings for the characters. Of course, you won't get as in depth of a look per film/character as you would for a "making of" book, but you get a good a mount of stuff, ranging from Mickey Mouse, all the way to "Tangled." It's a lovely book for a Disney fan looking for a great book. Like someone else said, the only flaw are that there are no notes of any kind, so you can't tell who did what when and things like that. Still, a five star book.

Simple Inspiration
I love this compilation of Disney sketches. In case you were wondering, that is all they are. It's just sketch after sketch for most of the Disney movies, specifically the princess ones as well as others such as Mulan and Alice in Wonderland and some classic disney characters such as Mickey and Goofy. There aren't any tips or pointers unless the artist made a note in the original sketch but I absolutely love it. As an artist and aspiring animator, I think observing the sloppy beginnings and various concepts are inspiring and truly helpful if you're trying to develop a style or get into cartoon drawing, simply because despite what you see on the screen, the styles for certain characters were vastly different originally. There are old concepts for Sebastian and Snow White that are extremely interesting. Sometimes looking at a creator's thought process through images is far more helpful and interesting than reading about it and this book represents such an instance. I loved looking through the sketch work and any art lover or disney fan will too.

Worth the wait
Like other reviewers, I've had this book on pre-order for several years and it arrived today - it was worth the wait. This is a beautiful book. The drawing are gorgeous and printed on heavy matte paper. Drawings come from Disney's hand drawn features (ranging from "Snow White" to "Princess and the Frog") with drawings from a few of the shorts mixed in. The drawings are presented in chronological order. The format is different from the Archive Series but complements it well. I don't have my Archive Series books handy so I can't see if there are duplicates, but if you like the Archive Series, you'll like this book. The book actually feels like the Sketchbook series of books that are out of print and hard to find. My only complaint is that most of the drawings are unattributed. The only flaw in an otherwise perfect book. I hope to see more in this series.

Great Book, Missing Some Films
This is a very lovely book -- well made and sturdy with a strong binding. It is hard covered and quite large; the paper is thicker than normal (more like card stock). It has assorted sketches from all across Disney's era from early Mickey Mouse drawings to Tangled concept art. It is really nice to look at and I get quite a bit of inspiration from it. My two problems with the book: 1. Some pages only have one or two small sketches on it so that there is a large amount of empty white space. I feel like just a few more sketches would have fit nicely to fill in that emptiness and give you a bit more to look at. I can't help but feel that some of the page space was wasted for only one picture given the size of the book. 2. Several Disney movies are missing including The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Treasure Planet, Tarzan, Wreck-it Ralph, and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. I really would have liked to see at least one or two sketches from those films. Other than that, I really like it and I'd recommend it.

It's here after years of waiting
There's no better way to judge an artbook than by looking at its pages, so I thought the video would be useful to you. Everyone that knows about this book has been expecting it for years. I even thought it'd never come out. But here it is now in my hands, and I'm really happy with it. The book is all about the rough images drawn by Disney artists over for classics like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book, Peter Pan and so many others. There's very few sketches of the main characters for almost all big Disney animated movies, so there's something for everyone. The book has no text, except for an intro by Charles Solomon, where he mentions a few of the famous animators and what they drew. Then, it jumps directly to sketches and more sketches. There's no other text besides that introduction. While it's nice that the drawings are big so you can appreciate every detail, it's bad that there are no credits for each drawing. You're left wondering who the artist might be (although if you're a Disney animation freak, you might identify the style and quality of some of them). The book is similar in style to Animation (Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Archive Series) , although the focus of this book is the rough drawings. I think that if you're a collector, or you like drawing, you're going to be really happy with this book. Enjoy!

Perfect for any Disney Fanatic!
I originally saw this book at The Writer's Stop in Disney's Hollywood Studio and fell in love. Since it is rather large, I decided to buy it on Amazon when I got home rather than lugging it through the park and airport. It is absolutely beautiful, from the leather cover to the inside sketches, and a great keepsake for any Disney fan. The sketches are interesting to look at and provide an inside look at how some of Disney's most famous characters are drawn. If you're a Disney fan, I suggest buying this book, as it is beautiful, or it would make a great gift for any Disney fanatic!

Such a gorgeous book Disney needs to release more
A fantastic book. It's a tremendous collection of rough sketches and cleanup drawings spanning Disney's classics along with some Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto thrown in there. Each movie gets about 4 pages dedicated to it with some obvious omissions: Black Cauldron, Fox & Hound, Great Mouse Detective (pretty much the movies that almost sunk the studio). We need Disney books to dedicate similar sketchbooks to each of their features in the same way. In the 90s they released some limited editions: Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, and Little Mermaid; but those were probably cost-prohibitive. This simpler book would be easier to print and could be dedicated to each feature film, especially from the 40's-70's and then Mermaid to current.

Magical and beautiful!!
My favourite art book so far!! I purchased this book as I am an animation student who loves Disney and the art style they produce. I was blown away by the artwork inside! The book has beautiful, initial concept designs spread across A3 sized pages. It is actually like a real sketchbook! The pages are the thick, textured paper that you usually find in high quality sketch pads and the pictures are printed in their original pencil/ink onto the pages. This looks so amazing that you almost feel that you would smudge them if you touched them. My best, favourite and go-to book of all time! If you're an artist/student/just interested in Disney art - BUY THIS BOOK YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Precioso.
