This cage is clearly designed with usability in mind, especially for anyone planning to build out a more complete rig with accessories like a microphone, monitor, or lights. The build quality stands out right away. The cage feels solid and well-machined, but still lightweight enough to handle comfortably. Once fully assembled with the top handle, side handle, and accessories, the setup does get heavier, but that’s just part of working with a full rig and not really a drawback of the cage itself. The included handles are also very comfortable and add a lot of flexibility, especially for low-angle shots or more stable handheld footage. The cable clamp is a nice addition too, helping keep everything secure when using external gear. SmallRig also did a great job with packaging. Everything arrived well protected, with no scratches or damage, which is always a good sign of attention to detail.

This cage is perfect for my Canon EOS R6 Mark II. It offers critical protection. It not only doesn't interfere with my access to any of the ports, card storage, or battery, but it actually enhances the functionality of my camera by adding additional cold shoe and NATO rail mounting points. The machined arca swiss compatible rail on the bottom means that I don't even need an extra plate. The side handle and top handle are easy to install and remove and offer increased stability with handheld shooting. It is lightweight and durable. I highly recommend

I’ve been using SmallRig gear for a few years now, and I picked up this full cage kit for my new Canon R6 Mark. Here’s the breakdown of how it actually performs in the field. ​Build Quality and Fit ​The first thing you’ll notice is the fitment. SmallRig is usually spot on with their dimensions, and this is no exception. It wraps around the R6 Mark III body tightly without any wiggle or play. It’s made of aircraft grade aluminum, so it feels incredibly sturdy without making the camera feel like a lead brick. ​Crucially, it doesn’t block any of the important bits. You can still get to the battery door, the SD card slots, and all the custom dials on the top plate without having to finger gymnastics your way around the metal. ​Key Features I Loved ​The HawkLock System: This is a game changer. If you’re used to the old school NATO rails where you’re constantly tightening and loosening thumbscrews, this is much faster. It clicks in securely and releases with a button press. It’s saved me a lot of faffing around during lens changes. ​The Side Handle This is surprisingly comfortable. It’s got a nice texture that doesn't get slippery if your hands get a bit sweaty, and it provides a much more stable grip for those low to the ground tracking shots. ​Cable Clamp Don't skip installing this. It protects the Micro HDMI port which, let's be honest, is the weakest link on these cameras. It keeps the cable locked in so you don’t lose your monitor feed mid take. ​A few things to note ​Balance When you have the top handle and the side handle attached, the rig becomes quite wide. If you’re putting this on a smaller gimbal(like a DJI RS3 Mini you might find it a bit cramped to balance. It’s much better suited for a full-sized RS3 or RS4. ​Assembly It comes with a magnetic tool hidden in the bottom of the cage which is a lifesaver but the initial setup with the cable clamp and side rails takes about 10-15 minutes. It’s not plug and play right out of the box. ​If you are just doing casual photography, this might be overkill. But if you’re doing any level of video work where you need to mount a monitor, a microphone, or a wireless follow focus, this kit is a must have. It turns a stills shaped camera into a proper cinema workhorse.
