Buy The Battleship USS Iowa (Anatomy of The Ship) by Draminski, Stefan (ISBN: 9781472827296) from desertcart's Book Store. Free UK delivery on eligible orders. Review: Highly detailed - An excellent and informative guide to the Iowa. Although it doesn't delve too deeply into the internals of the ship(primarily the engines), it does provide wonderful illustrations- many in colour and in various scales- of the Iowa from its commissioning in 1943 right through to 1988 showing all modifications during her lifetime. For model builders like myself having just purchased Trumpeters 200 scale Iowa, this book is a must. Review: The definitive Iowa reference book. - Superb book on this battleship. So many scale drawings and 3D colour views that make this a must have reference for modellers and those with a naval warfare interest. Certainly worth the cover price, another fine offering from this top class author.

A good book that could have been far better better
Whilst this book is one that tries to give the reader a fairly good idea of what such a powerful and beautiful warship was like, plus the many changes made to it, there are too many coloured drawings that would have been replaced by photographs, seeing as the Iowa is now a floating museum, so I'm sure that modern photographic techniques, combined with computer graphics could have provided a far better produced book, that whilst seemingly aimed at scale modellers could have been greatly enhanced by the use of modern technology.

A glaring omission
If I bought a book on the human anatomy, I would expect a chapter about the heart and the lungs. Similarly, if buy a book under the heading "Anatomy of the ship" I would expect a chapter on the ship's machinery, but this is entirely missing in this book. Previous volumes I own in this series such as the books on the Hood, Warspite and Dreadnought, have contained machinery chapters with many drawings of boilers, engines, pumps, condensers, as well as steam pipes and fuel flow diagrams. These have all been done as technical drawings and clearly annotated. I know some books, such as those on the Yamato and Fuso also do not have machinery chapters, but the authors have pointed out that this is because the plans were destroyed at the end of the war, and the ships in question are at the bottom of the ocean. No such excuse exists in this case because the plans are available and the ship itself is still extant. There are only a few drawings showing the machinery positions which I feel are totally inadequate in a book of this cost and scope. Anyone familiar with the Superdrawings in 3D books, will recognise the CAD drawings in the book as being of a similar standard, and the exterior of the ship is well served in this respect, but I feel the internal drawings are too small.

Quite a weight of a book
Have bought this as a present for my grandson at his request. It seems to be very informative with lots of plans etc.

Great pictures
This book is a great look at Iowa, however there are inaccuracies so is not suitable as a sole reference for modellers.
