original and best
I have at least 5 digital detectors. all initially seemed to work, for them all to give false readings, or need calibrating endlessly. this shows them all up. no false readings, if it "pops" your on a screw and hence stud. take a second to find your first fixing, slow circular motions across the wall/ceiling till you get one. then you can drastically speed it up by measuring 400 odd mm to where the next joist should be, and once you've found the orientation of the ceiling, length or width your away. walls cant be more straightforward, just double check for braces between the studs. I also bought a pack of plain 20mm magnets, so when i hit a "pop" i place a magnet on it and move on. more accurate than insulation tape, and no marks from a pencil. in no time I have an accurate "map" of the woodwork in a ceiling to be able to measure and space spotlights. you have no idea how often an old ceiling joist is curved, so i get the first few lights in fine, to hit dead on towards the end of the kitchen. with this I spend 10mins mapping the ceiling, with no visible marks, and its saved me all kinds of dramas. I'd often have a digital "detector" work fine for a few feet, then go out of calibration, not detecting anything at the 400 centre mark. I guess the old ways really are the best

Small, simple and effective.
For years I have shied away from stud work, mostly because it was just too tricky to locate them accurately. I had previously bought an electronic detector which was okay(ish) for electrical cables but utterly useless for studs. Then I needed to install a 100" projector screen for a home cinema project, and I knew I couldn't just screw it into plasterboard. After some research, I saw this advertised on You Tube, thought it was worth a try. To my amazement, I was able to locate all the studs behind the sloping ceiling plasterboard and mark them within a few minutes from opening the plastic packing. The little toggle moves and clicks, clearly indicating the nails or screws in the plasterboard and, therefore, the precise location of studwork. The screen is now mounted securely on battens screwed across six roof studs. Small, simple and damned effective. Easily worth the money.

Good product for finding nails in lath and plaster walls
Used this to good effect with lath and plaster walls in an old 1930's house. Doesn't pickup every lath nail but if you persevere slowly you can generally get some movement within the magnet indicating a likely nail. Also found "resetting" it by removing from wall then slowly bringing it back to the wall where suspected nail is can sometimes more clearly show slight movement in the knocker. I think if it could have a slightly stronger magnet to make the snap even more pronounced it would be beneficial.

Worked with lath and plaster
Lath n stud walls helped me quickly and easily identify where studs were. Picks up metal quickly, which centre point moving and “clicking” gives clear indication.

Ok but there is better
Work's ok but not as good as the stud buddy.

Perfect for Lath and Plaster walls.
We bought an electric stud finder to help find the studs in our lath and plaster walls. It was very difficult to understand the readings. We thought we would give this a shot for the price, and it worked amazingly well. It found the fixings on the studs straight away. We were amazed. Would definitely recommend this product for lath and plaster walls!!

Finally! Something that works!
This thing works exactly as described and far better than anything else I’ve tried for my lathe and plaster walls. The quality is excellent and it could not be simpler to use - ingenious, really.

A Simple Solution - Better than Electronic
A simple and effective way to locate wall studs. This detector is magnetic and works by reacting to nails or drywall screws. It works when the electronic detectors don't. And, it doesn't need batteries.
