Make sure you check the date on the label inside the tongue
The intent of my review is to make buyers aware of what to look for if and when you order these Red Wing Heritage boots from Amazon. I'm normally a size 12 or 12.5 in normal shoes and also have a removable orthotic footbed that in place in all my shoes due to my high arches. I ordered 2 pairs of Red Wing Heritage Moc 6" boots in Briar Oil Slick from Amazon in size 11.5 and 11. I recently purchased a pair of the Red Wing Heritage chukkas boots in briar oil slick and the 11.5 fit me perfectly. I liked the chukkas so much I ordered the 6" boots. When I purchased the chukkas, the person at the Red Wing Store showed me on the tag on the inside of the tongue of the boot that my chukkas were made on "10/15" - essentially since I purchased the chukkas in December, they were made 2 months prior. The 6" moc boots in size 11.5 arrived first from Amazon and when I opened the box, the first thing I noticed was how the boots looked "broken in" and the leather was faded, dried out, and old. The first thing I did was look at the label on the tongue and noticed the date was 2011 - these boots were almost 5 years old! Yet Amazon was selling them as "new." I tried the boots on, just to get a gauge on size and found the 11.5s to be too big. So I returned them. However, if they had fit, I would have certainly complained to Amazon for trying to sell me a new pair of expensive Red Wing boots that were obviously old and not up to any sort of Red Wing standards. Buyers - be aware of this issue and make sure you check the date the boot was made on the tag inside the tongue - the date is on the lower, right part of the boot below the model number. It's one thing if the boots are a few years old and still look brand new, but the boots Amazon sent me were definitely sub-par. 2 days later the size 11 6" moc boots arrived and I wasn't sure what to expect. I opened the box and immediately inspected the boots for quality and the date they were made. Fortunately, the date was "10/15" so I was sure these were recently made. While the boots looked as if someone had tried them on before, I could tell the size 11 was perfect for me and the boot fit great. The color of the briar oil slick along with the crepe sole looks amazing. I've been wearing them around the house for about a week now and I hate having to take them off. Every time I wear them they get more and more comfortable. I think of them as more comfortable than my favorite pair of running shoes, but the Red Wings provide far more support. I am very happy with the 6" moc boot and actually find them easier to break in than my chukkas. Once you decide on a color(s), and once you find your fit, I think just like my you will be sold on Red Wing Heritage boots. I am using these for wearing in the office, out in the field (construction), and for style around town.

Awesome
Wonderful boots. I love the look and the feel of these boot. The leather is very stiff and took about a month to break in. I had some tight areas, I toughed it out and let them break in naturally. Given a second chance, I would use a boot stretcher next time to get over these tight spots, as natural break in just takes too long. My measured shoe size is 9.5, although I wear 10 in running shoes. For these boots I went with size 9. At the store they expected me to fit a size 8.5, but I found these too short, toes hit the end and too narrow. I was used to wearing running shoes everyday and it is quite a transition to move to boot. Even though they are much harder than the squishy running shoes, my feet and back hurt less at the end of the day. Overall I think people need stiffer shoes for the support. We shall see how long these hold up, but I am a convert. Go Red Wing!

Classic Red Wing Style and Quality
Very high quality boots for the price. This pair was an addition to some other Redwings so, not a new experience. Sizing: Once you’ve been sized, I’ve found that this moc toe boot, the blacksmith or iron ranger seem about the same for me. Break usually takes me a week of wearing around the house. Some folks wear double socks to speed that up but you could end up with boots that are too loose. If you wear Allen Edmonds and have a standard width foot, size down one half size. There are several videos and reviews on sizing. If at all possible, get sized each time at the store or you could be gambling. My Redwing 3141 work chukka fit better at actual size and did not get sized down. They were not too long and did not require much of any break in. Comfort: All of these boots are like slippers once you break them in fully. Amazing transformation. Proper sizing and break in is worth it. Cleaning: Once you are used to sizing, familiar with how to clean them, Redwings will last you a long time. Review some of the cleaning videos online. Be aware the wrong oil or conditioner will darken the leather. Bicks 4 is a good non darkening conditioner. Although some patina or darkening will still occur. Especially on the copper rough and tough.

Great boot, USA made, genuine materials.. Get what you pay for
As many have mentioned before me, these run big. I generally wear 10D in all athletic shoes, but if you have a Red Wing store close to you, or have ordered these before.. go to the store first! Get measured for this boot. I ended up buying a 9.5D, still think they may be a smidge too big. First, I thought these shoes were too big when I received them. I decided to wear inside my house for a few hours first before deciding to keep or return for a smaller size. Something that is very important to note... heel slip in this, any many other quality boots, is normal and expected! A break-in period is necessary for these boots. So, if the boots are completely flexing or molding to your feet, the only give are is going to be the heel. I've found a good practice is to lace them rather tight, not uncomfortable, just tight. This will minimize the necessary heel slip. Next, you'll find the more you wear these, the more you love them. They start to conform to your feel. They are handcrafted and constructed in the good Ol' USA!!! This is my first pair of Red Wings boots and I am sold. I bought these not for work, but for nice occasions when the wife and I go out. I do wear them often for every day use, but not for work. They are incredibly well built so would not hesitate to purchase if needing a good work boot. My line of work does not require a workboot however. Would I buy again.. yes! Will I need to buy any time soon, no I don't believe so. These are so well put together I could easily see wearing them for a couple years. Do recommend putting a mink oil, balm, or RW leather treatment on the boot. Will speed break in period as well as protect the boots. Great boots!!!

Good Boot-Should Have Been Discounted
The boot is built with quality in materials and manufacturing. The pair that I got did not have an insole which isn't a big deal since I had a more orthopedic set I was going to install anyway. The build date is nearly 2 years old as well. These were obviously opened before. I wasn't going to go through the hassle of returning them since they fit fine and are breaking in quickly. Buyers should also be aware that the entry into the boot is somewhat small and since there is no loop on the rear to pull the boot you will probably need to use a longer shoehorn. These boots from Amazon are similarly priced to the ones directly available from Red Wing. I would strongly recommend Amazon discount these as they are not brand new virgin boots. I'm hoping to get similar wear out of these that I have gotten from other Red Wing boots over the years. If I do, the price paid won't be as much a consideration as if they were brand new virgin boots.

My 4th moc toe, so far so good!
Awesome as always! After few weeks only of break in, fits like a glove now.

1907 Red Wings
Boots got delivered a day earlier than expected. Boots are very nice and color is as shown online. They came with 2 sets of laces, black boot laces and leather. They also have a leather insole. I ordered a half size down like I have with the 875s. Normally a 9.5 in Thorogoods and Van's. Look like a nice heritage Red Wing boot like I expected. I just applied 2 coats of leather conditioner to help with the break in. I would highly recommend these boots.

Great boots, powerful style and construction but sizing a challenge.
I wanted a pair of Red Wings for a long time and was tempted by a great deal through Amazon. Ordering was a challenge since you are encouraged to size a half or even full size down but some reviews said keep your normal sizing as they are narrow. They arrived quickly and looked great, so well made from thick leather and essentially an iconic boot. Workmanship was flawless and it was evident that attention to detail went into the traditional construction methods. However, they were huge, probably a good 1 to 2 sizes above my UK made size 9s in length. That said, Americans must all have slim feet because these were very snug at this enormous size so if I went down they would be bone crushers. Therefore if you have slim/normal width feet these are a superb buy but do take a risk at sizing down by 1 whole size and they are likely to fit.
