The Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition series of elementary math textbooks and workbooks is meant to be part of a system of learning in which adult supervision and independent practice go hand in hand. The main feature of this series is the use of the Concrete-- gt Pictorial-- gt Abstract approach. The students are provided with the necessary learning experiences beginning with the concrete and pictorial stages, followed by the abstract stage to enable them to learn mathematics meaningfully. This approach encourages active thinking, communication of mathematical ideas, and problem solving. This helps develop the foundation students will need for more advanced mathematics. Practice exercises are designed to provide the students with further practice after they have done the relevant workbook exercises. Review exercises are provided for cumulative reviews of concepts and skills. All the practice exercises and review exercises are optional exercises.Format: Paperback Publisher: Singapore MathGrade: 3 Review: I'm a fan! - I have used Singapore math for 5 years now with three children. We start with 1A in first grade and complete two books each year. My 5th grader is on book 5A now. My kids have done well each year in the Iowa Basics Skills math section. All we do is Singapore math and math drills 4 days a week for math. For math drills we use the math whiz by learning resources and math wrap-ups. I love that there are not 50 problems a day, just enough to practice. I have my kids do corrections if they get less than an 80 percent on any assignment in the workbook. I give stickers if they get a 90 or above. I give two stickers for a 100 percent and then we add up all their stickers when they complete the book and they get a reward based on that amount. It is like a little celebration each time they complete a book. My girls struggle with some of the concepts at times, but we get through it and they I don't groan about math. Friends of mine have used math-u-see and it seems like such a bunch of rigamarole. Singapore math is just so clean and simple. I recommend using a mini white board for some of the practice and instruction if needed. We are moving to Saxon math starting in grade 7. I use the recommendations from My Fathers World. I love their materials and all they recommend. Pros Focus on mental math. Slow and steady pace. Easy to digest small amounts for each day. Review: Love this math course - This math course is great! Best one I have found. I like how they explain everything and give so many mental math tricks, they start with concrete and then pictoral examples of the problem, and then go to abstract. It's actually the way you would teach a child who has discalculia and difficulty with math. Highly recomend.

great product for some...
This is a great system, we have now gone through levels 2-4a and it fits together seamlessly. For math heads, you will probably go through more than two a year, and after grade 4b there is no turning back to different systems.

Goes along with the rest of the series. Good program and approach to math which should be taught in schools.

great math text for homeschoolers
I have used this series for years with my girls. It is to the point and not overly repetitive work wise. Love the cost too.
