I'm looking at the Ascent A3300 Blender. Do I need to buy a different blade for the 20 oz cup if I purchase it to go with this blender?

There's a starter kit that comes with the blade base and two of the 20 oz. containers. This is what you want. individual 20 oz. containers won't come with a blade base.

Does this version make hot foods and soups?

Yes it does! It also come with a recipe for tomato soup which is delicious. I would recommend sautéing your onions before adding them!
