## Description

Product description

Review: Good Boot - I'm having to spend at least two months in a boot, and am extremely grateful to have found a more comfortable, supportive system. I had two serious ankle surgeries in two years dealing with a badly torn ligament. All this stems from a thirty year-old injury incurred while running long distance in the mountains. I was hurtling down a mountainside one summer when a university physician came jogging up the path pretentiously waving his cross-country ski poles on dry ground. He suddenly jerked his pole to the side and tripped me up, thus causing an extremely serious tear in the ankle; it was never the same. Now, two surgeries out, with the ankle finally beginning to do better, a bicyclist come at me on a walking path; dodging this re-injured the vulnerable ankle with a new tear. It had less "give" anyway. Now, I'm hoping to avoid surgery! I wore Ossur's older model after the first two surgeries: Ossur Air Equalizer Hi Top Walking Boot , which was quite good. Other reviewers said that the tall boot was more supportive than the tempting shorter one. So I thought I'd give this new, updated version a try. It's really good, but for the design flaw with a strap that goes right across the instep. It presses down on the instep and top of the foot the more you inflate the boot. And the range of adjustment for the instep area is limited, given where you have to fit it at the top where the pump is. The half-boot doesn't have this problem, and seems to be an improved, more recent design; even the padding is better. But this tall boot is still much easier to get on/off than the old tall version, lighter, and easier to ambulate in. It doesn't cause the Frankenstein effect of the good old boot, since it's not as heavy or thick-soled. My podiatrist doesn't even use this high-tech model yet. PS: If you've just twisted your ankle, your doc may suggest a boot. I'm not a doctor, but my advice, after serious sprains and 2 surgeries by a highly regarded specialist who just wants to operate a 3rd time (after being clueless when I came in with a sprain on the damaged ankle; he seems to have forgotten how to properly treat injuries to heal them & prevent surgery) is: try at least 2-3 weeks on crutches, with your ankle in a boot or ace-bandages. Then slow rehab. When I think back, it was old-fashioned treatment that worked best: ice, elevation, wrapping, and crutches did the trick. Nowadays, docs just want to cut. Beware!
Review: Between the soft foot bed and air compression, hands down the better boot! - Came home from a second mid foot fusion surgery with the Dr. provided dreaded “black boot”. It has two rails up the side and a heavy plastic foot with five Velcro straps. My foot moved around and rested on my heel causing a pressure sore. The top of my foot (where the incisions are) had to lift the weight of the boot, and the sloppy fit caused excessive movement within the boot and nonstop pain when changing position. So I ordered this boot based on lots of positive reviews- and I’m telling you, the reviews don’t lie! I’m not going to lie and say my foot no longer hurts, but wow, what a HUGE difference a comfortable boot can make! There’s some rubberized material inside of the footbed, which makes a notable difference when resting the foot on it, and there are no reinforcements at the side of the mid foot (like the other boot which pressed into sutures on the side of my foot). It’s just one smooth, ventilated boot and the tall version makes the calf and shin support the weight of the boot, as opposed to the foot taking the weight of the boot. The hard shell that would sit on top of your foot and against the shin is removable, which I had to remove to keep the pressure off of the sutures but the boot is stable without it, but the removable shell provides extra protection to the foot if you can stand it. The boot has a fixed plastic toe guard that wraps up from the bottom of the boot so you aren’t completely exposed if you can’t tolerate the top piece. And the Icing on the cake is the pneumatic air pump that inflates the wrap inside the boot to support the calf and heel and aids in circulation (which really helped with the pressure sore on my heel). I even slipped accidentally and tried to catch myself from falling with my surgical foot. The boot dispersed the brunt of the weight into my entire foot and I don’t think I hurt myself…X-rays will tell. Speaking of slipping, It has a really nice non-slip rubber rocker sole which has helped me as I scoot up stairs on my rear end. The only con, (and I wish there were an option to avoid this) is that the inflation pump is on the top of the shin just below the knee. It makes for difficulty with the knee scooter. I don’t want to damage the inflator, so I’d love to see this boot with the pump somewhere else, even the back side would be better, but if I had to buy another boot, I’d absolutely buy this one again. Super grateful to have found this boot!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Overall a comfortable boot with one minor exception
*by C***E on April 11, 2026*

The reason for only 4 stars is because of the lack of thought for the shin pain you get every step from the inflatable bulb, other than that this boots is super lightweight, the bulb provides perfect compression and support for the ankle and tendon area, the Velcro durability is amazing just having 3 straps, and the easy of use couldn’t be any easier. You are definitely getting quality and high value for your money besides the one flaw I have mentioned.
