The foam padding around the ear piece prevents opposing wrestlers from getting a grip on the head gear. My son had a wrestler try to grab in a match and he was not able to do so due to the construction of the head gear. It has a double strap on the top which assures a secure fit and placement when competing. I have seen many kids who have other brands of gear and their head gear will slide around during a match and even slip off. The straps are adjustable which allows for head growth as your wrestler gets older. It has a padded chin strap with sturdy snaps on either side of the chin so it is good for left or right handers.
