Professional Quality
This heating pad is professional quality and it is well worth the extra expense. Initially I balked at the price but after reading the reviews and considering my options I decided that I needed a quality moist heating pad. Upon receiving the item I immediately could see the difference in quality between this and other heating pads that I have previously owned. Every aspect such as the heavy duty cable, lcd and especially the pad and cover itself is excellent. If you need a heating pad for theraputic reasons you will not regret this purchase. If you are thinking about this purchase consider these aspects before dismissing it on price: Excellent Quality Large size Moist heat element built into product (no need to wet a pad and place it into a sleeve like other cheap pads) High thermal temperature up to 166 degrees LCD control for temperature and time ************************************** Concerns - Most of my concerns were immediately alleviated upon using this product but there are still some very minor flaws that could be remedied either in design or after purchase. Some users have been annoyed with the velcro strap, to this end I have been able to use it as a wrap for my shoulder and neck. However for other body parts it may be too small or large. You can easily rig an adjustable velcro strap solution for this or remove it from the product if it irritates you. The one year warranty seemed paltry considering the price of the product but I was able to purchase an extended warranty with accidental damage for about 11 dollars. The one year warranty also seems standard for these types of products. ************************************** While I am very happy with my purchase, I was further impressed by the excellent customer service of the seller. When the price of the product dropped on amazon as the seller sent me a check for the price differential upon request and was very quick to respond. ----------------Update 7/10/2012------------------------ Product has been going strong for over a year now. No problems at all. Heating pad still gets hot and moist and is extremely effective. The price has dropped significantly making some of my observations about the price point less relevant than they were. At the current price of $46 it's an absolute steal in terms of quality/effectiveness/durability. Cover has gone through the wash with no problems. The velcro strap is indeed frustrating, I ended up rigging a fabric covered velcro strap to make it more comfortable.

Your search stops here
I have had a multi year journey looking for a great heating pad. I have lupus, disc issues, and small fiber neuropathy. I had an old heating pad that died on me and every one I've bought since did not get hot enough. I found this one here and immediately was excited about the size of it. It's big enough to cover my entire back. That's so beneficial when you have muscle spasms all over. I love the weight of it. It really helps the heat penetrate my joints to relieve the arthritis pain. The high temperatures are great. I turn it up to 166 and put it on top of my bed spread and it helps the heat disperse even more. If I'm using it directly on the skin or clothing f I find 142-147 to be perfect. It burns the pain into submission. When you have arthritis they say moist heat is the best for the joints. This pad gets very humid. You can feel the moisture and it's done by design. No need to wet the cover. The beeping from the control is a tad annoying. It bother my husband more than me because I'm enjoying all the benefits. Other reviewers have brought up the lack of backlight and it is a con. I find myself having to turn on my phone flashlight to see the control. Other than those two things this is a top notch product and will provide you maximum pain relief. I've had this heating pad for over a year and it gets heavy daily use. It works amazing and I've recommended it to friends with chronic pain. Another friend with lupus ended up buying one and she swears by it too. It's just a great product and worth the money 100x over!

Almost perfect...hope it lasts!
UPDATE after 11 months I originally gave this 5 stars when I wrote my original review. My digital display gave me an error message two days ago and the pad stopped heating unless I fiddled with cord placement. It seems like a connection issue. I called BodyMed and explained the problem and they are sending me a ONE TIME replacement under warranty. But he explained a lot of things I hadn't paid attention to. 1. ALWAYS UNPLUG FROM WALL WHEN NOT IN USE. 2. Only use 30 minutes at a time. If used longer let it cool down between used...interesting since it has a 60 minute timer! 3. It is designed for only 60 minutes of use a day...I should have pressed this. Seems like that means the electronics were not designed to last a long time? 4. Never lay on top of it...oh well. All of these restrictions caused me to lower rating to four stars. But it is still the best option I have found. Even with the abuse I gave it, leaving it plugged in etc, it still lasted almost a year with more than 1 hr per day of use. If I have to buy a new one every year I will just need to include the expense in my budget. My dermatologist noted my skin is discoloring due to lots of heatpad use. Hmmmmm. I'm thinking perhaps I will limit my use to 30 minutes am before getting up and pm before bed. And I will lower the temperature a bit. This is still a great pad. Hopefully they will figure a way to make electronics or wire attachments more durable! But if not I will keep buying them! ORIGINAL REVIEW This is my second moist heating pad purchase. My first was the Thermophore black box with timer. I have only had this new pad two days, but so far it is my favorite. The digital controller is fantastic. It doesn't have it's own backlight so you must turn on a light to see it, but otherwise it is terrific. Directions are easy to follow once you get the idea of when to lock it. I now have it set for 30 minutes at 144 degrees. As long as I don't unplug it, the controller keeps my setting so all I have to do is turn it on. I LOVE THIS CONVENIENCE. The instructions specifically state that we are NOT supposed to lay on top of the pad. We are only to lay the pad on top of us. My doctor explained that it's a safety issue. These high quality moist heating pads can get hot enough to burn if you lay on them. If a person didn't have total pain sensations due to numbness or other problems it would be possible to fall asleep and get burned. My Thermophore has a controller with a timer but with NO temperature control. I have to constantly push the pause button on and off to cool and heat the pad. Thermophore's less expensive pad doesn't even have the timer so you have to hold the button down the whole time to keep the heat on. I am finding that I can comfortably lay on top of my new BodyMed moist heating pad at 144 degrees without fear of burning even though the instructions expressly forbid it. The timer goes to 60 minutes max. If I fell asleep it would turn off. But if I thought I might fall asleep I would probably set it for a lower temperature. Does it feel moist? Yes it does. Just as moist as my Thermophore. How does it get moist? It says it pulls moisture from the air. I was very skeptical but this system does work. It says not to store it in air conditioning or hot dry places. Really? Some of us live in hot dry places with AC. It says if pad needs extra moisture to hang it in the bathroom where it will absorb Humidity. But realistically I have a super fine atomizer spray bottle that I mist in the air over it occasionally if I don't feel moist enough, so the pad doesn't actually get wet but the cover gets a little moisture as if it were in a humid bathroom! Now that I have this BodyMed I don't see any advantage of the Thermophore controller without the digital temperature control. The only thing I don't like about this BodyMed is the label on the cover is a bit scratchy, as is the Velcro strap at the bottom. The Velcro is stitched at the bottom and scratches me when I first lay on it. They should stitch it higher up out of the way when folded under. And they should stitch their label on the back of the cover! Other than that this pad is perfect! If necessary I will cut the label off. But really it is only noticeable when first laying down. So it's not a huge issue. It comes in both white and black if you have a preference!

Great product- Wish it had a back light!
Note- The company has changed names for their non-professional customers in the time since I bought the first one. The packaging on the second reflected this, but there was no change at all to the product itself other than their new name- BodyMed vs ReliaMed. This is a product I first bought in 2010 after researching which heating pad would last the longest and have the best features. The orginal pad died in 2014, so the lifespan of the first one was roughly 4 years. I liked it enough to buy a second and so far (owning two) These are the Pro's and Con's of this model. Pro's- - I like the size of this item. Large enough to run all the way down my back or wrap all the way around my leg. It is a bit big if you want it just over your shoulder, but they make them in many sizes. I selected the largest size as it suited my needs best. I have found no pressing need to buy a smaller one as of yet. - Digital pad is well made. Nothing on this item feels 'cheap'. Never had any issue with buttons failing to work which has occurred on other high end electronic items. - I like the lock feature which allows you to set the time and temperature you want and will prevent that from being changed by accidental pressing of buttons as you move. - Moist heat. Very nice. The cover is well made and easy to remove and wash. -Cord length is long which allows you to not have to camp out by a plug in. - Temperature range. Goes from a very low heat (which I rarely use) to one that is a tad too hot- but nice for short times. I can always find a setting that is comfortable. Cons- - No back light. HUGE con, but not enough to make me look for another product. Adding this feature would really put this product at the top of it's field. - The Velcro on the cover is annoying when you do not want to use it. I would prefer a tie or possibly having the Velcro set so that it could be attached to the inside of the cover when not in use. Overall I am very pleased with this item. I use it a lot and will buy another as long as the quality does not go down, as can happen when a professional product is marketed for a non-professional consumer.

First one lasted 5 years, this one a month.
UPDATE: I am not sure what has happened to the Bodymed company? This used to be an excellent, long lasting, heating pad. I have purchased 5 different ones. The most recent was back in February of 2024! Now I am getting the ER thing and it keeps going off after only a few minutes. I sent them an email and no response at all. Same thing with one that broke after only a year during Covid, no response at all. I am so done with this company's product. I just ordered an entirely new and different heating pad. Hopefully this company will have more integrity than Bodymed has demonstrated. I CANNOT recommend this product any longer, the quality is just not there. If you can afford to buy a new, not entirely inexpensive heating pad every 6 months to a year then have at it. I purchased this heating pad over 5 years ago and it worked beautifully almost daily. So when it suddenly stopped working, I ordered a new one, the same exact pad, that same day. I like to use it behind my lower back while I sit in a chair in my family room watching TV or while I’m on my IPad or smart phone. This one has stuck onto itself in places, like the corners and ends, is the only way to describe it and I cannot adjust it under the sealed covering. So it is not smooth and is probably a little over half its size now because of this. The first one never did this even once in the 5 years of use and I am using in the same way. My prediction is that this pad will probably not even make 6 months, since it is essentially heating itself. I called the company and was told that someone would be getting back to me but I did not receive any correspondence at all.

Miracle pain relief
This Body Med Moist Heating Pad works like MAGIC!!! In fact, I just bought a second one so I could have one upstairs in the bedroom and downstairs where I watch TV. I turn it on and the pain just melts away. You don't put water on it! It pulls moisture from the air! I've tried regular heating pads in the past and they just did not get the job done. This is something different entirely. What I really appreciate about it is that you can set the temperature and it has a shut off timer. Both those functions are very important if you have a lot of pain, very bad pain, or are diabetic. If you have the pad on bare skin with the temp too high, you could cause damage to yourself. If you have it on too long - like all night - you can also cause damage. When I got my first one, I called my doctor and asked what was the highest safe temperature and how long I could have it on. I won't say what temp I use because it may be different for you, but the time is 15 min. I get joint pain, and I also get muscular pains. I had trouble sleeping and usually couldn't sleep at all unless I took something. I have stomach problems so I try to take as few meds as possible. This heating pad has been a Godsend. I constantly tell my friends about it. It's a lot more expensive than regular heating pads or the moist pads you have to add water to, but it's worth every dime. The only pain it wasn't as effective on was a terrible bruise I got. After icing it for the first 48 hours, I switched to the moist heat. I had to turn the heat down a bit because my skin was so tender on the bruise and it didn't do a lot for the pain. Other than that, it's worked every time for every pain. I can't promise it will work for everyone as well as it does for me, but it's my magic bullet. Now that winter is here, I even use it to warm up the bottom of my bed. With the shut off timer, I don't worry about accidently leaving it on all night. On a cold day I sometimes put it on my legs while I wait for the house to warm up. I'd give up my microwave before I'd give up my moist heating pad. This seller had it for $20 less than I paid for my first one! If you're on the fence, don't hesitate.

A WHOLE OTHER CATEGORY
This heating pad is so superior to others I've owned in the past, it seems it should be in a completely different category. As soon as I saw the box, I knew it was much better quality, and when I lifted it from the box, I was shocked at the weight and sturdiness. Because of the way its weighted, it forms nicely to whatever part of your body you're using it on, but it doesn't get bunched up. It's also huge.,so it covers whatever area you need. I have severe Fibromyalgia, so a heating pad is a lifesaver for me. I'm so thankful to have found one that works so well and is such good quality. I can tell you, with no reservations, it's worth the money. Some specific things I've noticed: * To give you an idea of the size, when I lay it down for my back, it's almost the same size of my king size pillow. * I read some of the reviews that said it doesn't get hot enough. I don't see how anyone can say that! It goes all the way to 166 degrees, but I can't stand to have it above 134, and I need it very hot for severe pain. Once it gets above 134, I start to feel like it's burning me. * There is a piece of Velcro ( probably about two inches long), that is a little annoying, but I just flip it to the other side. * It does beep a few times before it goes off, and I was worried that would bug me or wake me up, because I'm a light sleeper, but it hasn't. I think it's one of those sounds you get used to like the washing machine or the air conditioner flipping on. *I agree with the people about the screen on the controller not being lighted. During the night, if you want to change the temp, you will need a small flashlight or a lamp. The on/off button is seperate from the others, however, so it's easy to turn it on just by feeling. I just make sure the temp is set like I want it before I turn out the lights, and then I can turn it on during the night just by feeling at the top for the power button.

Excellent product but won't last over 1 year.
Functions well and easy to use, which is why I bought a second one after the first stopped working. This product is 5 star-worthy, but I rated it 2-star because just like the first one, it stopped working after one year. For the +/- $75 price, I won't be replacing it again.
