After many trails I recently purchased saffron from The Gathering of Saffron, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The quality of the saffron threads is superb; they’re vibrant, deep red, and have a wonderful, potent aroma right out of the can. After adding it to warm milk and warm water on alternate days, I noticed a delightful, earthy flavor, and it blends well without losing its distinct taste. It's a mild saffron but passes the sniff, taste and texture tests; does not fall apart in cooking (ie, not falsified with gelatin). While its flavor is on the mild side, its price and availability make it still more affordable to use than more expensive sources and it makes wonderful saffron rice and works well in making challah. One tin lasted me about ten months, which for less than $20 (even with adding a little extra sometimes to amp up the flavor), I consider quite decent!
