What would I need to bond it to a recessed panel on cabinet doors?

Mmmm, is it an outside application? I stapled mine to a plywood ceiling, but that’s probably not what you want todo with a cabinet door. I think the stuff is pretty uniform. I would try a heavy spray adhesive. Try & test it on some wood with a scrap if you can. I think that would work well?
