My tv had a USB port on it that powered it just fine. I has able to put some velcro on ...
I purchased this because my 55" LED tv in my bedroom would not longer work. I have a Directv Genie box in my bedroom that is connected via the HDMI port on my tv. Recently for some odd reason my HDMI ports no longer worked. I attributed it to a malfunction with the Genie that surged some electricity thru the HDMI cable.Long story short, I didn't want to get rid of my tv and wanted to see if this would work to connect up to the rca jacks on the tv from the Genie with HDMI. I was excited to get this and couldn't wait to test it out. I connected the HDMI cable from the Genie into the converter and connected the 3 rca cables I had to the rca jacks in the back of my tv. Viola, I had picture now.So let's just say this WORKS!There is NO rca cable with the converter. You have to supply your own. It does come with a USB because it needs to be powered in order to use it. My tv had a USB port on it that powered it just fine. I has able to put some velcro on both sides of the converter and mounted it to the tv near the USB ports. The cables and adapter work well and are hidden with my wall mount tv. I'm extremely happy because I was able to extend the life of my tv. The only downside is the picture is only 480i. You can definately tell the difference when you've been watching 1080. But I'm just happy this works! So if you're looking for a converter for your older or even new tv, this is definately what you should get. Comes with instructions too. I did contact customer service for some questions about this converter and they answered them quickly and I was very happy with the CS rep.

Perfect little converter for my needs.
Great device for my needs. I bought it to send the video source from HDMI devices to a USB capture card. I am not doing video capture with it but for the project I was using it with ( Hyperion Ambilight for multiple HDMI sources) this device works great.I won't dock it but this device seems to be picky about what sources/cables it will use to power on without the need of external power from USB. When I had this connected through one particular HDMI splitter ( one output to TV, the other to this converter) it would power on for about 5 seconds and then turn off. There is a blue LED light on the bottom (???, don't know why it isn't on the side or top) to let you know it is on/processing the signal. In order for it to work properly I had to power it via the micro USB port.Due to other reasons I switched to another HDMI splitter and now it automatically turns on and off when there is a signal, no USB power needed anymore. The HDMI cables are the same ones I was using with the other splitter so nothing else changed. It does have its little quirks: A couple of times I have accidentally hit the video signal switch from NTSC to PAL and it will obviously distort the picture or make the colors look funky. Setting the switch right back to NTSC if everything is still plugged in would not solve the problem.Sometimes just turning off the source will work but sometimes it doesn't. Then I have to unplug the HDMI and USB cable ( if needed ) turn off the source, then plug it back in again, power on and then it will work. Just keep that in mind if it looks like your source does not work.UPDATE 9/13/2016: Another little quirk I found about this device was that if Deep Color is turned on for the PS3 this thing will not stay on, even with the USB power cable. Disabled Deep Color on the PS3 and all works fine. Don't let the Deep Color setting fool you, it won't affect your colors at all. Just turn it off and enjoy this little box.

Began with connection issues. Worked well after reset with each use, but died within one month. Defect, fluke, or lemon? Maybe.
It had trouble (or my computer did) in communicating. At first I had to unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable to get sound. Only a picture worked. Later no picture either unless reconnected. After less than a month this did not work. It just died while in use. Replugging it does nothing. It worked GREAT when it was working. But when it DIED it had no little blue light on as it did before. I even switched it between NTSC and PAL then back again, but that had no remedial effect either. AMAZON was good and has promised a full refund in a few days. In the meantime I will be purchasing another unit produced by a different manufacturer also featured here on AMAZON; This may be an excellent product and I just got a bad one. It worked well when it worked.
