This would not hold up to being used as an ice cream scoop. I use it as chocolate chip cookie dough scooper - it works great. Perfect size cookies. Easy to scoop and overall the release mechanism works really good. I have a tendency to try and release it a bit too slowly sometimes and it works better when you release it quickly. It's dishwasher safe. Cleans easily. Good weight for scooping cookie dough. Recommend for cookie scooper, not ice cream scooper
