I purchased the Red Gonex duffel bag for an 18-day trip through Africa and wanted to see how it would hold up compared to two other bags I traveled with—one from REI (mid-price) and one from Patagonia (premium price). At around $35, I was honestly skeptical about durability. This bag was checked on 17 different flights, handled by multiple airlines, and exposed to constant packing, unpacking, and rough baggage handling. By the time we returned home, the bag definitely showed some wear—mainly minor stitching coming loose—but it never ripped, the zippers held strong, and it stayed functional the entire trip. By comparison, the REI and Patagonia bags showed virtually no signs of wear, which is expected given their price points. That said, I was extremely impressed with how well the Gonex performed for a fraction of the cost. What I liked: Excellent value for the price Sturdy zippers that never failed Held a full wardrobe without ripping Great bottom compartment for dirty clothes or muddy shoes Lightweight and easy to pack What could be better: Some stitching loosened after heavy use No internal loop or pocket to attach an Apple AirTag This is not a “buy it for life” bag. If you’re looking for something that will last decades, Patagonia is still king. But if you want an inexpensive, reliable travel duffel that can handle a few years of hard use—what I call a high-quality disposable product—this bag absolutely delivers. Bottom line: For the price, the Gonex duffel exceeded expectations. I would confidently buy it again for long trips, adventure travel, or anytime I don’t want to risk an expensive bag. I bought this bag years ago (back in 2018) and still use it yearly for trips back and forth from Asia to the US. I have limited storage space, so rather than buying multiple bulky suitcases, I own one sturdy Samsonite and then I store my other luggage (backpacks, carry-on, duffles) inside. It is incredibly lightweight and easily folds up to a small, manageable size for storage. While the fabric originally felt thin, I’ve been so impressed with how it has held up over many, many international trips. I’ve never had a rip or zipper issue. I generally only use this bag for clothes, shoes, bags, and other soft items. It doesn’t have the structure to protect hard or fragile items. I appreciate the amount of pockets on this bag. There is a shoe-style pocket that could be used for shoes or other items you don’t want touching the rest of your luggage. Filling this does take away some of the internal capacity. There are three other external pockets that are useful for stuffing with last-minute items like shirts or flip flops (they are too small to fit much else) and there is one more small internal pouch. It also has an external pocket to slide onto your rolling luggage handle (I don’t tend to use this when fully packed as it makes the load too top heavy). It did come with a shoulder strap that might be useful if you aren’t carrying heavy items. I’ve never used it as I tend to stuff this bag to its absolute capacity each trip. I’ve never had issues with it being over 50 pounds (I think it would be challenging to do so). While transporting it fully packed, it can be heavy and carrying it by its handles is the only option. For those who highly prefer rolling luggage, you may find this to be an issue when transporting through the airport or to your destination. I choose to only use this bag when I know I have direct transportation options and won’t be carrying it for long periods of time. I’ve found this bag to be perfect for international moves or other destinations where you know you will be doing a lot of shopping (you can throw it in your suitcase and unfold it at your destination). For the price, I find this bag to be an excellent value. Since my original purchase, I’ve bought 4 more for another big international move in Asia. I’ve never had a single rip, hole, or zipper malfunction. A great buy I’ve never regretted!

I purchased this bag last year, and it has been an excellent choice for traveling. The quality is impressive, and it has held up really well over time. It’s spacious, durable, and very convenient to carry, making my trips much easier. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable travel bag.

I got this bag as I didn't have suitcase for an upcoming research trip I had. Fit all the things I needed, plus 4 pairs of new shoes, 3 new pants, and 3 new tops. It held up the whole time and I had no problem with the zipper! The shoulder strap has padding which was a must! I went on a week long trip and had to go through 2 airports. Perfect carry-on size for southwest airline and I would trust this to be checked honestly. Even when packed full no problems with seams or breaking. Problems I had was that when I had stuff for my trip it was uncomfortable to just have around my waist and on shoulder, so each time I had to carry it (best grip with all 3 straps) in my hand. This got tiresome in the later legs of my trip ... even more so with more stuff in it (showering me there is no sub for a good suitcase! even if I fit more things in this!!!). I definitely would purchase again as its a really good price point. Will see as more time passes. Also works as a great gym bag. Pros: - fits so many things! Way more than my carry on suitcase - great price - nice many compartments and pockets that I could use to store my liquids and pull out fast for TSA - great for short trips and I'd trust durability for checking it (did really well as a carry on for Southwest) - works also as a great Gym Bag or large shopping Bag! Cons: - not that easy to carry, I needed all 3 straps and couldn't just use the shoulder strap like I wanted - not sure how long it will last, though I trust it to be checked, I don't know how many trips the bag can take before it dies 4-Star: - can't really use only the shoulder strap - didn't really like the shoe compartment and was hoping to fit more then one pair there - best paired with things like backing cubes or storage containers that give it some structure as it collapses in on itself - Great price and better than Wandlf bag I tried near this price point Will update after more time passes!

Brilliant design, plenty of pockets, easy to fold back for storage, seems sturdy (fabric, zippers and straps). Hopefully it'll last a few years of the wear and tear of airlines luggage handling.

For how small it packs down, this is an extremely sturdy and useful bag. Get all the sizes, they will each serve a purpose. The large ones fit an enormous amount and the small ones are great as a gym bag or carry on.

​I am very impressed with this bag. The size is just right for traveling—large enough to fit everything I need but still easy to carry. The material feels durable and high-quality, not like those cheap, thin fabrics. The foldable design is a huge plus for storage. Highly recommended!

We bought four of these 40L models for a long international trip we are currently on. It has 11 flights on 6 different airlines. They are to serve as seconary checked luggage with the airlines when we have a flight that has stricter weight limits per bag. We transfer the soft items (clothes) from our luggage into these bags and then check multiple bags for the flight. So far this has worked great. These bags are awesome! I wish I had bought these years ago. They are just the right size. Not too big. Not too small. They balance perfectly on top of our wheeled luggage. When crammed full of clothes, they weigh about 8 kg. They are easy to handle. I don't know if it is mentioned or not. But they have the side "slot" that lets you drop this bag over the handle of your luggage so that it doesn't fall off when you are walking though the airport. I didn't know that when I bought these. That has been a lifesaver! When we don't need them, they fold up very small and fit nicely inside our regular luggage. I went ahead and attached perment luggage tags to them so that when can deploy them at an airport on the spot if needed. I store zipties into the external pockets that I use to "lock" the main zipper when checking the bag. The reason I bought 4 is because we each keep one in our carry on bag too. This is to be deployed in the event that we are forced to bag check our carry-on because of weight or size limits. A lot of airlines now have weight limits of 10kg for carry on. This will let us split out carry-on payload and keep the valuables on us while letting the airline bagcheck the carry-on. So far we haven't had to do this. Our only regret is buying all 4 the same color. In the hotel we don't know who's bag belongs to whom. We would have bought different colors for each person if we could do it over it.

We needed to pack a spare bag to accommodate shopping on our extended overseas trip and this bag was ideal. Not only did it fold down to a very compact size in a neat zipper case, but it was also light and extremely durable. It is well made, with several compartments and one of the best items we have purchased. Delivery was prompt and it will be coming with on all our future travels.

To be honest, I haven’t used it for travel yet but I am impressed with the construction and how it folds so compact. I bought this because on a recent trip I found my luggage extremely cumbersome. I vowed I was not taking a suitcase again. I am hoping that this duffle bag will be better than the traditional suitcase. I will update my rating after I’ve actually travelled with it.

Ovviamente per conservare roba non troppo pesante o acuminata che potrebbe ledere il tessuto dall'interno perché è un tessuto sottile e leggero ma dall'altro lato resistente e con una buona impermeabilità. Ho apprezzato molto la facilità con cui si può richiudere su stesso diventando grande 30x30cm, molto comodo se si vuole portare dietro per ottimizzare lo spazio e utilizzarlo al momento opportuno. La capienza è ottimale, ci entra dentro tantissima roba e la tasca esterna per le scarpe è molto molto comoda e anche molto grande:possono entrarci anche due paia piccole di scarpe o un paio di scarpe grandi e altre piccole. N. B. La tasca delle scarpe se piena, occupa una parte dello spazio interno del borsone perché rientra dentro di esso. Quindi, valutate anche questo prima dell'acquisto! Ha comodi manici che permettono di portarlo sia a mano che a spalla (in questo ultimo caso, poiché la base non è rigida il borsone potrebbe incurvarsi seguendo le linee di forza dei manici). Nel complesso lo consiglio a chi come me lo usa per roba comoda come lenzuola, coperte e cuscini, è perfetto per questo scopo.
