desertcart.co.jp: Notes from Underground (Vintage Classics) : Dostoevsky, Fyodor, Pevear, Richard, Volokhonsky, Larissa: Foreign Language Books Review: Feels like paper - Font is good, the cover isn’t shiny it feels like watercolor paper, which is why mine was a bit damaged at the edges from mail. Cheap and soft and bendy for reading. Will probably get dirty if thrown into a tote bag. Review: Good contents in a large, cheap indie print - Great book with what is considered the gold standard of translations. The quality of the product isn't bad given it is a cheap indie print for desertcart Japan. The downside is it is rather large, not normal novel size and more like a magazine.

absolutely loved this book. Might be my fave Dostoevsky one I've read so far. My husband and I refer to it all the time. We are all the man from the underground, and we should all strive to be better.

An astonishing insight into the darkest corners of the human psyche. The narrator represents the duality and paradoxical nature of being human, and his underground musings, polemic and reflections hit deep. Every interaction, from characters to the ideas of the time, act as a mirror to the face of the Underground Man, drawing up his fears, resentments - both sustaining him and tempting him to wield power over it. At times darkly comic, and terrifying, this is quite incredible - but not an easy read.

Fram sidan av boken fick lite böj men tror de har med leveransen att göra med, annars helt perfekt!

I keep coming back to this book! It’s inspired my art and inspired so many new theories and thoughts. At first I saw Dostoevsky and The Underground man and the same, mostly because he is the narrator and the author, but when I read it again and separated the two it’s a whole different story.
