The prequel to the NYT Bestselling Cat & Mouse Duet is here... November 12, 1944 This house holds on to souls for a lifetime. I thought I had given it to my husband when I vowed to love him until the end of time. I lied. Nothing could have prepared me for the day my phantom appeared outside my window. He was terrifying, yet hypnotizing, and I couldn’t deny my intrigue. I never intended to fall into a whirlwind romance with my stalker. Especially because he’s so much more than that. A criminal. A mobster. The man who offers me solace from the monster in Parsons Manor. There are many that haunt these halls, yet it’s only my husband I fear. Review: 10/10 🌟 - This book gripped my heart. A phenomenon al follow up to the cat & mouse duet. Written so well from Gigi & her phantoms perspective. Top tier read. Review: Another brilliant book - ⭐️4.5/5 🌶️ 3.5/5 I listened to the audiobook of this. It was so nice to have Gigi’s story after reading the Cat & Mouse duet! The story linked to the pages we read in the duet and helped build the story around it to understand the context. The conflict, the challenges faced in those times, the naughtiness and the story behind Gigi and The Phantom. Despite no HEA mentioned, the bonus scene helped us feel that they got some type of HEA. The narrators did an amazing job with this and helped build the tension around the two characters. Another brilliant book by H. D. Carlton.

Hmm not what I expected
This is a lovely love story and great back story to their love and early days of their relationship/affair but I was hoping this book would answer some questions that were missing and I feel a perfect opportunity has been missed here. Despite that .. i did enjoy the book and their romance

I SOBBED
As soon as I knew this book was coming out it was a given that I would be reading it, after hearing pieces of the tragic story of Gigi and Ronaldo in Haunting Adeline I was set of reading their full story even if it was the last thing that I did and while I truly adored this book I have to admit that it broken me in a way that no book has ever broken me before. If this book has taught me anything it’s that those who truly love you and not just the physical you those who love you on a soul based level they will find you in every universe, every timeline and every version of life which is exactly what Ronaldo did with Gigi no matter what happened he stayed with her and he always found his way back to her, it was next level! I loved getting to see Gigi and Sera interact with each other through the book, Gigi was truly made to be a mum and getting to see the way that she cared for Sera was so wholesome and the way that she was willing to give up her own happiness with Ronaldo so that Sera grew up in a safe and happy environment is a true testament to who Gigi is as a person, but it did break me so badly knowing the fact that Gigi gave up everything for everyone else around her but I loved the way that when Ronaldo made his way into her life he showed her that she can be herself and those who truly love her will love her in her truest form. He truly is one of the best men I’ve had the pleasure of reading about he is a REAL man ❤️🔥 Overall, I could go on about this book forever and it will own my heart & soul for the rest of my life. I pray that my next level is a strong and passionate as Gigi and Ronaldo’s and that I find someone who understands, sees and accepts me in the same way that he did for Gigi. These two in my opinion are the truest representation of love because you can’t choose who you fall in love with but when you find the one it can be all consuming and powerful in the best way and that alone is beautiful but when it was mixed with Gig and Ronaldo beautiful is the understatement of the century 🥹

Story of Adaline’s grandmother Gigi
This is a sequel to the cat and mouse duet, but is based years previously with Adalines grandmother Gigi and her love interest Ronaldo. I am not usually a mafia romance fan but I enjoyed this. I love learning about Gigi and Ronaldo’s love story but wish her death had been covered in the book, would love to have known more surrounding it.

Sooo interesting and couldn't stop reading
I loved everything about this book, Ronaldo especially. The way it was written had me really captivated, the characters were interesting too. Gigi is a wonderfully written female character and I love the way her mind thinks, the whole journalling thing too. The book was beautiful and Ronaldo is really just that dream guy. He treats gigi like a queen and still views her like an equal🥹 respects her boundaries and everything like a true gentleman. And the 'Mi Rosa' nickname🥹🥹 i loved listening to the audiobook just as much as reading it, the voice actors were wonderful🧎🏾♀️❤️

What a story ❤️
The married woman of the manor. The stranger outside. An intoxicating novel of dark temptation and dangerous desire by the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Cat and Mouse Duet. H.D. Carlton does it again. Phantom is a stand-alone dark romance telling the story of Genevieve Parson and her relationship with her stalker Ronaldo. The book is set in 1944, during this time when the mobs run the streets and the police are doing nothing to stop it. Genevieve is married to John Parsons, a bookkeep who has gambled most of his and his wife money way in the mobsters casinos. When Genevieve learns that they can not make the payments for the house, it fractures their relationship. Ronaldo is a hit man for the mob. They took him in when he was a child, and he owes them everything. He's given the job to kill John Parson for the debt that he owes the mob. Until one night, Genevieve and Ronaldo's paths crossed. Neither of them were looking for each other, but they found themselves in a whirlwind romance. I loved this story. Even though this is a stand-alone, For readers of Haunting & Huntering Adeline, it gives a further background of Parsons Manor and how this relationship shaped both of these women's lives. I loved it
We wanted more of Gigi and Ronaldo. Carlton said 'challenge accepted' and here we are, crying in a corner 🫠 I loved it: Gigi is a queen, Carlton always knows how to portray internal pain, the educational spicy is chef's kiss. I had intense crying sessions from seeing them so happy and finding light in each other's darkness (knowing his ending...). And the bonus chapter!! I can't get over it. It has flaws though: I don't feel like we get enough depth on how the relationship shifted from fear and curiosity to love (Gigi's pov). I thought a certain storyline, considering how Gigi died, was going to be more obvious. And it felt too short—maybe because I needed more of them.

HD Carlton has done it again 💅🏻
*arc review* ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ legit was so so so good 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ This felt like such a Satisfying read! Can’t say I’ve really ever read any historical romances but this was super good! Gigi and Ronaldo fit so perfectly together and the love they have for each other burns so bright, and it’s consuming, and even tho they had some challenges they kept going. They were destined to be together forever. I love that Gigi started to learn a bit about what she likes and didn’t know she could feel, and Ronaldo helped her see that. But yo — Gigi, ma girl, the mouth on her was so good. She presented herself as innocent and then BAM — the dirty talking so whipped out of nowhere. You go girl 😮💨 she had Ronaldo wrapped around her pretty little finger 💅🏻 "There will never be another, nor will I live a life without you. Death awaits us all, Genevieve. Even still, it will not keep me from you." CRYING RN Also can we talk about how beautiful the illustrated cover is??? Wheeze

“I’m a bad man, but I won’t be her monster. No. I want to be her savior.”
4.5 ⭐️ Okay I didn’t realise this was THE Gigi’s diary that Addie reads in HA. Oh I am in love with this story already! I just picked it up cos like HD Carlton, why wouldn’t you read it right? One of my insta buy authors. I was so excited when I realised what this tale was. And then the plot kicks in and it’s so exciting! The duality of their lives and how they intertwine. Loved it. What a creepy house. I forgot how ghastly and ghostly and awesome this place is! I really enjoyed the 1940’s era, the music, the mob gangsters, the girdles, such a seductive setting. It added to the tension in the air and his sweet words and declarations just had me swooning. Like his words just had me melting, like can this be real life? Everything he says to her is so poetic and beautiful. The ending was sweet but I really wanted more! Such a greedy girl! I loved their story.
