Excellent performance but you do need a 5 gallon bucket. I got one from Halfords with no problem. It is made of fairly thick plastic which I think will be robust enough but I have not had it long enough to be sure. The instructions say the connections are 2.5inch but the inside diameter is a little smaller (more like 2.25"). I found it a little difficult to find adapters to connect it to a standard vacuum cleaner in the UK. This is why I have given it 4 stars rather than 5. It connected to my shop vacuum with no problem. Once the connections are sorted out it works very well. The main reason I purchased it is because it is made of plastic and is light and compact enough to easily transport in my car. I didn't know what I needed but the internet told me to get some kind of a dust collector to save the shop vacuum filter from clogging up. I used this along with a 5hp vacuum most of the weekend and I was very happy with the results. The bucket was FULL of saw dust and the vacuum itself was practically empty. This did an amazing job separating the sawdust. Very happy with my purchase.

I've had the original model since it first came out. I had played around with the Thein filter diy separator concept previously, so I knew this would work, and boy does it! It completely eliminated having to empty the main tub and filter - to the point of wondering what the point of having a large main bucket was at all. On the new model here, the edge seal works really well, and the hinged snaps are a welcome addition. I think the original one was designed to allow it to leak a little air to prevent bucket collapse if the hose got too loaded or blocked, but it robbed performance. I tried a bunch of things to improve the seal on the original, but kind of gave up. I've watched a bunch of comparison videos between this and the Oneida dust deputy products, and have never been convinced to go that route, mainly because of the overall stack height of the tall funnel. This fits under my bench with the vac, the tall Oneida won't (funny they now sell which seems to copy this design, so that complaint must've gotten through). I recently picked up a Fein turbo to use with it- which not only works fantastic, but it's quiet and with the bucket stacked on top, it takes up very little floor space, is super quiet, and has a huge amount of airflow and suction. A word of warning- you're going to want to double up your bucket or source a heavy walled or metal one. I collapsed the first bucket I had on it several times. Despite that, the fleece bag in the Fein turbo has never filled with any debris whatsoever after a month or more of regular use. This setup is outstanding on my tools which don't have a 4" or larger port so can't be connected to my big shop dust collector.
