We use this as the top layer of substrate for our crested gecko's terrarium. I don't have any live plants in there and this sits on top of a mesh liner to separate it from the hydroballs on the very bottom of the tank. Overall, it is very easy to work with. I liked the price point and the fact that it can be reused; but for the price point, I won't feel bad if I need to buy more versus cleaning what I have. For our 12x12x18 tall terrarium, I used about half a bag. Like I said, I don't have any live plants, so I can't speak as to how well it hold moisture for such an application, but my gecko has never bothered it nor seemed interested in trying to eat it. It helps hold in moisture so it keeps her tank humid, even though we only spray it once in the morning and once before bed. It has a very pleasing color and it makes her terrarium look beautiful and natural. I would highly recommend this to other crestie owners for it's price point, durability, appearance and low maintenance.

I like this better for bedding than shredded Coconut

I used to use aspen substrate, but I wanted something more natural looking. Repti Bark was the answer! It looks like a jungle floor and helps the humidity hold really steady. The darker colour means a darker environment for my reptile to live in! I have already ordered some more and am looking forward to using this as a substrate in all my future Vivs!
