The 13 piece kit contains: HB, 2B, 5B Charcoal White, (2) 6B, Carbon Sketch pencils. Also includes (2) soft sticks of compressed charcoal, soft jumbo stick of compressed charcoal, white charcoal stick, artist's pencil sharpener & kneaded eraser. I'd say that they are oil-free. They are charcoal.

What would I use to keep the charcoals from smearing?

If you have finished your picture you will need to spray it with a fixative. If you are drawing and trying to prevent smearing you can place a piece of paper over the area you are not working on or get vinyl sleeves.

I really want to incorporate the white charcoal into my art. Do I need to use the gray or tan tinted paper? Any recommendation?

I have used the white charcoal on white paper. It mixes with the black for some good effects. I was putting snow on tree branches. Of course you could use it on darker paper, but you don't have to.

Adoro questa scatola di carboncini, sono di grande qualità, e pur essendo i miei primi lavori noto subito la differenza con materiali più commerciali. Peccato che qui da noi sembrino introvabili.
