Cheap Insurance Against Headliner Failure If you’ve ever owned a Jeep with a hardtop, you already know that heat, cold, humidity, and constant temperature swings can be tough on adhesives over time. Even when replacement headliner kits include their own adhesive, I still like having a high-quality automotive adhesive on hand for extra peace of mind. This 3M product has been one of my go-to choices for headliner work because it is specifically designed for automotive environments where materials are exposed to extreme summer heat and winter cold. The last thing anyone wants is to spend time installing a headliner only to have corners start sagging or sections pull away months later. The spray pattern is consistent, the adhesion is strong, and it provides the confidence that the installation will hold up long-term. I have found it especially useful for Jeep hardtops, where temperature fluctuations can be much more extreme than in a traditional vehicle. Professional quality adhesive. Work to carefully position your materials you are joining because once you place the materials together they are likely to stay in place permanently

This adhesive is nice, thick and sticky. It sprays on easily, and did exactly what I needed it to do. The aerosol makes it easy to apply evenly without much mess. Quick drying time with no discoloration observed. Overall, it worked well for my project and got the job done.

It works fine for upholstery projects. I would prefer to use Landau Top cement for upholstery and headliners because I know it can handle heat. This product is sticky enough to glue materials to foam and I did not have any discoloration. I did not notice my needle on my Juki industrial getting gummy from this adhesive. Drying time is a little longer but that is ok. The 2 pack was a good value for my money and this is a good adhesive.

This product does very well at doing what it's supposed to do. The problem is, it's too good! Please consider not applying your headliner material as the YouTubers do. In other words, TAKE YOUR TIME. Try to adhear small sections at a time, maybe a quarter or less. This will avoid inadvertent contact between wet surfaces before you're ready, because once that contact is made, it's made. Additionally, let the product tack up for several minutes before attaching the fabric to the headliner itself. This will avoid the unwanted accumulation of wet glue into the open cell foam that backs your material as you apply the light pressure needed, thus avoiding irreparable dimpling as the open cells collapse and adhere to each other. Steam from a handheld steamer does work to reopen some of those collapsed cells (not all), but be very judicious in it's use as the steam, if in contact with the fabric for too long, will begin to melt the fabric itself. Take these tips if you will from a now seasoned veteran. Good luck.
