I was wondering what I was in for when I ordered this product because some people describe Reishi as being bitter. I did not find this to be the case. I would describe the flavor as somewhere between sour and savory (slightly more sour), but not bitter. I think this would be best used as a spice in food preparation, especially soups. It also blends well with drinks. The container comes with a 1 gram scoop for measuring. I tried a gram of this powder by itself and thought it tasted different, but not repulsive in any way. I think it would enhance certain foods. I found the therapeutic effects to be calming and stress reducing.

I bought this a while back for the first time and it did wonders for my sleep and anxiety. It was a chalky fine powder that smelled and tasted like unsweetened cocoa powder. I mix it in my herbal tea every night before bed. I just ordered a refill and got a new one and this time the lid is blue and not white… the smell on this batch is neutral and the consistency is totally different, more like a granulated powder than a finely milled chalky powder like last time. It dissolves in my tea better and doesn’t have a chocolate like taste like the first batch. I’m curious to why these two different batches are different and if any one else has experienced inconsistency issues? I will see how this batch is with my sleep and anxiety since I’m drinking the second one for the first time tonight. This is the only reishi powder I’ve tried so I don’t have much to compare it to- to see if it’s real or not.
