The simple explanation is it’s making fine adjustments to the different frequencies in order to to balance them out and then compressing them all together. When that happens all of the levels are relatively equal and all smoothed out. Jamming and recording could damage your speakers because there’re not strong enough to withstand uncompressed audio, at least at a volume that you could work with. 2) Enclosure design; The speaker enclosures (cabinets) are usually manufactured to “color” the sound source for a few different reasons. One reason is that manufacturers design enclosures to “naturally” enhance the sound to get the most use out of the less expensive materials that are sometimes used. Another reason is so it sounds better right out of the box with little to no EQ input. Studio monitors are made for uncompressed raw sound and most studio monitors are manufactured to be as flat of a response as humanly possible. The reason for that is so all of the sound manipulation done by whoever is doing the recording and not colored by a cabinet design which varies greatly depending on how it was designed. Done right this will make the recording of Joe’s new hit song sound great in his car while on his way to play it for his girlfriend on her home stereo system. In other words “consistent”. **Q: I have a new computer with a soundblaster z. I do not get surround with my old speakers. Are these good with a soundblasterz? Surround?** A: they are designed for it! but by SB Z's design, you will get better EAX and other features by using the analog connections for games. optical bypasses a lot of SBZ's features for games. 5.1 easily! with any connection! If that is all you want it for; games, music whatever, you can use any connection you like. You use digital for music and DVDs only(IMO). These Ltec Z906 speakers have inputs for both optical and analog! but YOU provide the cables! **Q: True Surround Sound? Does the rear speakers sound good and have true surround sound? I currently have the z506 and the rear speakers are not loud.** A: The front and rear speakers are all the same, and yes, it's a true surround system. Sounding good is a bit subjective, but I'm pleased with it. The control console lets you independently adjust the dB level of the rear and center speakers as well as the subwoofer. By default, I found the rear speakers quiet. I adjusted them to maximum out of personal preference since I use the system mainly for gaming. At about 10ft behind me, I think it's pretty spot on, and can hear dialog clearly.That being said, your Z506 is a 75w system, this is a 500w system. Throw in the control panel, the remote, extra inputs...
