This is the smallest speaker in the "Signature Elite" line which is a replacement for the Signature line. The model is ES10 and it looks identical to the predecessor S10 model. The S10 is supposed to be discontinued. This is a tiny speaker. You can hold it in the palm of your hands. Also, it's meant to be a surround speaker for back and height channels and it's even got a keyhole so you can hang it on the wall directly. However, I'm actually using it as a main speaker for my computer system as a stereo speaker. By itself without a sub, it sounds excellent. very clear, good tonality, but given its size, there is no real bass, so definitely you'll want to pair with a small subwoofer. I didn't do any measurements but it's probably rolling off quickly below 100Hz. I had it powered by a relatively inexpensive SMSL DAC/Amp, and it sounds very very good. I feel this better than average even compared to other tiny speakers that I've heard over the years. The Elite Signature line seems to have internal upgrades from the Signature line. It seems like they tuned the crossover to smoothen out the tonality in the midrange frequencies compared to the Signature line. I find there is a wee bit of treble emphasis which adds to a sense of clarity but nothing objectionable. The mids are very solid and represented well without any kind of honkiness or shoutiness. Both male and female voices sound full bodied, without any sibilance. All in all there is nothing that stands out as being flaws that are deal breakers. Imaging is especially good, I get a good sense of width and height. Bass is basically nonexistent but what's there doesn't sound too flabby or loose. I like that they didn't try to aim for excess bass energy to make up for the lack of bass extension....so this speaker should be easy to integrated with a sub. I would recommend you cross over at 90Hz. If you want tiny speakers, there are a lot of other speakers that are more ragged or uneven sounding. The issue is that most of the time, they tune in a lot of mid and upper bass to make up for a lack of deep bass. And consequently they also end up bumping up the treble just to add sparkle. This makes the speaker sound extra clear but it's tiring after a while. The build quality is good, it feels like something that costs more. It's discounted now and then on Amazon.ca ...especially this brown colour which looks kind of nice sitting on my wooden desk. Magnetic grill, rounded edges, a cool looking "FlowPort" in the back which is supposed to keep from chuffing as easily when pushed hard. I give it five stars if you get it on sale, but four stars if you pay full price just because there are probably other speakers worth considering when you get to that price range.

I bought these really wanting to like them. I grew up reading about Polk in the 80's & 90's, and they do have a stellar track record. I was looking for small computer speakers to replace my B&W MM-1's. I got these and hooked them up to a cheapie $29 class-d amp I bought here on amazon that has 50W x 2 and a THX Onyx DAC. The overall sound was actually very good, nice and neutral from the mid-bass all the up to the treble. I listen to rock + metal + extreme metal. The highs were pleasant, as pleasant as a shrieking death metal guitar can be, and that is with No EQ applied. That being said, what caused me to cave and return them was non-existent bass. I figured with that Polk Power Port and having a decent size (for a 4" bookshelf speaker that is), they could maybe get close to 60Hz or so as an F(-6dB), but nope, these roll-off HARD below 80Hz even when close to a wall. I've heard other speakers in the same size factor with much more satisfactory bass output with the same size mid-bass driver. I know most would say "get a subwoofer", but these would have been used for traveling; I needed something that I can put in one of my duffle bags and these fit that bill with their small size. All things considered, for the size and cost: ♦ Sound quality in their usable range: 9 out of 10 ♦Finish/aesthetics: 10/10 ♦Midbass: 7 out of 10 ♦Midrange: 7 out of 10 ♦Treble: 8.5 out of 10 ♦Bass: 4 out of 10 ♦Overall value: 7 out of 10 These should be priced somewhere in the $170-$180 range tops, not $250, mainly due to the lack of bass response. Other than that, the look and finish is GREAT! With a 50Wx2 amp they can get LOUD and still sound great doing so! I bet the 5" and larger versions sound much much better as Main speakers! If Polk were to re-engineer these and give that midbass driver a lower resonant frequency (maybe 10Hz lower), and increase cabinet size just a smidge but not too much, perhaps 10-12%, I bet they could sound much much better! If you are totally OK with the lack of bass, I highly recommend them.

Using these as desktop(?) speakers with a Mac Studio in a computer hutch. Driving them with an old Onkyo TX-8211 receiver rated at 50W RMS tucked behind the display. Not ideal speaker placement but it actually sounds very good. Base is good but I may be adding an old MLT-2 sub once I get that fixed. I looked at a number of near field desktop/bookshelf speakers. I have unusually good hi freq hearing so the high end was important and the ES10 supposedly goes to 40K and the Onkyo is good to 30K, both well beyond my limit as good as it is. That said, the treble is very good, as is the rest of the spectrum. All the other speakers I looked at seemed to be a bit limited at the high end and made in China. Unfortunately when you look at the photos of the Polks, it says "American HIFI" in front, "Made in China" in the back. If there is anything made in America, it would likely be well beyond my budget. These were on sale and I wanted something before the tariffs fully kick in. Update 25Jun2025 - Decided to try a Fosi Audio ZA3 with these speakers. The Onkyo TX-8211 takes a bit of space and lacks a sub out. At first the sound was a bit flat and disappointing but the soundstage grew after a brief break-in. The Onkyo had tone controls which allowed me to back the base off a bit. The ZA3 has no tone controls and base is a bit too heavy, but this has more to do with the ported speakers being in a hutch. I find I need to have the ZA3 volume set to near max whereas the Onkyo provided similar levels at less than half volume. The more I listen the more I like. Sounds like a quality pair of headphones.

These pair of Polk ES10 replace my old Mission satellite speakers. 5.1 system sounds much better.
